Jack Dorsey Tweets Square’s Eyeing Creation Of Bitcoin Hardware Wallet
Twitters board of directors has decided to keep CEO Jack Dorsey in charge following a months-long review of the companys management structure.
The decision by a committee of Twitter directors will let Dorsey breathe a sigh of relief after activist investment firm Elliott Management questioned the social-media giants performance under his leadership. Elliott owns about 4 percent of Twitters stock and holds a seat on its board.
The panel, which was established in March, expressed its confidence in management and recommended that the current structure remain in place given recent improvements to Twitters product and operations including its third-quarter financial results, which saw revenues climb 14 percent to $936 million, Twitter said in a securities filing Monday.
The board will continue to evaluate company and management performance according to a range of factors, including the companys operating plan and established milestones, the filing said.
The review was earlier this year with Elliott, the hedge fund run by billionaire Paul Singer that reportedly sought to oust Dorsey amid concerns about underwhelming growth in the companys stock price relative to other social-media firms. Investors also werent thrilled about the 43-year-olds plans to spend six months in Africa, which he later scrapped.
Twitter shares were up 1.6 percent in premarket trading Tuesday at $40.12 as of 8:51 a.m.
Jack Dorsey Says Twitter Played A Role In Us Capitol Riot
By Kate Conger
Jack Dorsey, Twitters chief executive, said during his congressional testimony on Thursday that the site played a role in the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, in what appeared to be the first public acknowledgment by a top social media executive of the influence of the platforms on the riot.
Mr. Dorseys answer came after Representative Mike Doyle, Democrat of Pennsylvania, pressed the tech chief executives at a hearing on disinformation to answer yes or no as to whether their platforms had contributed to the spread of misinformation and the planning of the attack.
Yes, he said. But you also have to take into consideration the broader ecosystem. Its not just about the technological systems that we use.
Before supporters of then-President Donald J. Trump stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, misinformation about the results of the presidential election had swirled on the social media sites. Lies that the election had been stolen from Mr. Trump were prevalent, as were false conspiracy theories about how President Biden had gained the votes to win.
After the attack, from posting on their platforms. Their actions suggested that they saw a risk of more violence being incited from what was posted on their sites, but the executives had not previously articulated what role the platforms had played.
Ms. Schakowsky asked whether Mr. Zuckerberg agreed with Ms. Sandbergs statement.

Jack Dorsey: Square Inc
The idea for Square came to Dorsey in 2009, after his friend Jim McKelvey, a maker of glass products, was unable to complete a sale because he couldnt accept credit cards. So the duo created Square, a device that can be plugged into a cellphones headphone jack and process debit and credit card transactions.
The service launched in late 2009 to a controlled pilot of 50,000 users. The success of this ten month period led to the public release in November 2010. Part of the appeal was the services lack of monthly fees or contracts. All that Square requires is a fee of 2.75% per swipe, and the basic magstripe reader is free of charge.
Later Square Inc. products include the Square Stand, which turns an iPad into a POS system, the Contactless and Chip Reader, and Square Register, a complete POS system for slightly larger businesses.
Square was criticised early on by Verifone for the services lack of encryption, claiming it was making it easy for programmers to skim credit cards. Square denied these claims but tightened their security anyway, and all of its later products were encrypted.
The company, which brought in about £1.7 billion in revenue last year, is still run by Dorsey, who balances being the CEO of both Twitter and Square with his passion for yoga.
