What Is Wrong With Twitter

Don't Miss

Why Did The Website Redirect

Whats Wrong with Twitter (2016)

There are numerous reasons why a website might automatically redirect you to a different location. The most obvious reason is the website has a new domain name, and needs to redirect visitors to it. Another possibility is the website has unusually high levels of traffic and needs to move some visitors to a server with more resources. The website could also be down for maintenance and needs to redirect its visitors to a webpage with information about when the site will be back.

Some larger websites redirect their visitors in order to deliver location-based content. For instance, if someone in Germany visits the Italian version of a website with content and products aimed at Italian visitors the website will automatically redirect them to the German version.

Twitter Something Went Wrong Error: Are Servers Down

The something went wrong error on Twitter is the result of a short-term server issue. For whatever reason, the services are failing to properly load users feeds. The home page is also encouraging users to log out, for some odd reason. As usual, the fix for this sort of problem is to wait until the servers stabilize and come back online.

In other words, the message saying something went wrong is left intentionally vague. Something happened that shouldnt have, and now the service is temporarily down.

Fortunately, there is some good news here. Because the issue is server-side, theres nothing you need to do to fix it yourself. Honestly, you could just keep refreshing the page until it works again. Logging out and back in probably wont really make a difference, but it couldnt hurt. However, theres really no telling how long the outage may last. For better or worse, you may be waiting a while.

If youre ever concerned that the problem is on your end, stop by the . There youll be able to see if any of the sites services are experiencing interruptions. If theres anything other than a page full of green check marks, you can assume the problem is server-side.

Fears Of An Internal Backlash

He believes that if Ukraines leadership did give in, viewing their predicament as a choice between Russias version of Minsk and more death and destruction, they could face a backlash internally.

Notice that Zelenskyi is not connecting the escalation on Ukraines borders with the implementation of Minsk, because he knows that the implementation of Minsk could be more dangerous for Ukraines stability than whats happening on the borders, Shulga said.

In 2015, four national guardsmen were killed outside Ukraines parliament when members of a far-Right nationalist political party threw a grenade to protest a law which would have introduced elements of the special status for the occupied regions. The first draft of the law was initially passed but it did not get any further and has since been rescinded.

Far-Right expert Michael Colborne believes that if Kyivs government tried to implement Minsk, there would be backlash from large swathes of the Ukrainian population.

With Minsk, it would not even be explicitly the far Right. I think its mostly the nationalist civil society that would be the driving force, though the far Right would certainly try to frame themselves as the vanguard of such efforts, he said.

Its what I call the general patriotic turn in Ukrainian society after 2014, which, again, is understandable. Its something thats going to happen in a country at war, he said.

What Are Status Codes

Every time your browser connects to a webpage its sent back data from the webpage known as headers. The purpose of the headers is to give the browser important information about the state of the webpage. The https status codes as they are sometimes called are handed to the browser as part of this information. And tell the browser whats going to happen next.

For instance, if the webpage sends a http status code of 200 back to the browser it means OK everything worked, I will now display the contents you requested. But if it sends back a http status code of 404 it means NOT FOUND, the requested webpage was not found, so I cant display the contents you requested.

Status codes can be separated into five separate categories based on their first number:

  • 2XX – SuccessThe webpage is up and reachable and the contents shall be displayed.

  • 3XX RedirectThe webpage is up and reachable, but is going to redirect you to another URL.

  • 4XX Browser ErrorThe browser has requested information which does not exist on the server.

  • 5XX Server ErrorThe server has a temporary or permanent error and is unable to handle the request.

  • Problem One: Losing Control

The 25 Worst (Best) Spelling Mistakes on Twitter The Poke

One of Twitter’s key problems has been data control. While other social networks, like Facebook and LinkedIn, operate walled gardens where their user data and insights are restricted from public view, Twitter is, by design, the opposite – virtually everything posted to Twitter is available to anyone who wants it. That’s how it has to be – Twitter’s the ‘global town square‘, the place where people go to participate and add their insights into the wider, global conversation, people use Twitter as a real-time pulse of the issues and happenings of the world, and to have their say on those very same issues. But the problem with this is that Twitter’s data is being used by an ever-growing number of third party providers for mention monitoring, share of voice analysis and other forms of tracking, much of which Twitter has little control over and gains little revenue from.

And what’s worse, some of these platforms actually reduce the need for users to visit Twitter proper, as all the data and insights are provided within these other platforms. That then reduces Twitter’s capacity to monetize that audience – and as noted, user growth, both in terms of acquiring new users and time spent on platform, is a major concern for the micro-blog giant.

‘vampire Diaries’ Paul Wesley Cast As James T Kirk In ‘star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Season 2

After the Season 2 premiere of Star Trek: Picard gave us a tiny morsel at the end of the episode featuring the return of John de Lancies all-powerful Q, this weeks episode, titled Penance, brought the master manipulator back full force. Only, as Jean-Luc Picard himself realizes Something is wrong with Q.

It was refreshing, de Lancie told Decider on the still-mysterious twist. It gave me a kind of a secret, and that secret, thats what actors try to do oftentimes is find a secret because it energizes things a little bit without having to reveal anything. Theres a secret in there.

As to what that secret is, de Lancie was mum Is he dying? Is there some sort of infection in the universe? Maybe hes not Q at all? Whatever it is, its as unclear to us, the audience, as it is to Picard. Part of the reason for that is that, as usual, Q is talking in riddles, his hints and teases all out of order for the timeline, only leading Picard along in whatever his game is instead of giving it up entirely.

The good news, though, is that despite Qs infuriatingly twisty phrases, de Lancie always knows whats going on, and what hes teasing even if the audience doesnt.

Twitter Outage Forces People To Actually Work On A Monday Afternoon

With international tensions at the highest they’ve been in recent memory, so many of us turn to social media for up-to-the-second news, analysis from trusted experts, and honestly just to find some dumb memes to distract us for a few blissful moments. Unfortunately, that’s proving slightly more difficult than normal this afternoon, as Twitter experiences a service interruption.

We first noticed problems viewing tweets starting around 4pm Eastern on Monday afternoon. While the issues with accessing tweets haven’t been entirely consistent, we’re seeing a whole lot of “Something went wrong. Try reloading.”

Reports flooding in to Down Detector seem to confirm that this is far from an isolated incident. We’re keeping an eye on the situation and will update this post as service is hopefully restored to full working order.

    Control: Russias Bottom Line

The recent build-up of Russian troops along Ukraines borders are a signal that Russia is willing to use further military force to achieve its desired outcome. This could be through pressuring the West to make Ukraine implement Russias version of the agreements, or other, yet-to-be determined, policies.

The West periodically reiterates its support for the Minsk agreements by issuing statements such as promising to lift EU sanctions against Russia after the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, but it does so without defining whose version of the agreements it supports.

In an article, Allan urged the West to decide: Is Ukraine sovereign, as Ukrainians insist, or should its sovereignty be limited, as Russia demands? But, Allan said, he worries that there are some Western policymakers who dont want to face up to the stark reality.

If Russias problem with Ukraine was about a single policy issue, like the language laws, the decommunisation laws, the EU or even NATO membership, and it used only diplomatic methods, then perhaps a solution could have been reached through mediated talks.

But Russia started a war in 2014 because it wants to control Ukraine on a permanent and everyday basis. It continues to fuel the war because it is unable to accept that Ukraine does not want to be controlled by Russia.

Twitter Is Down With Something Went Wrong Errors

What is so hard about saying this is wrong?, says AOC over Paul Gosars violent tweet

Twitter is currently experiencing a worldwide service disruption that makes it impossible for users to read tweets on the web and load threads using the mobile app.

On the web app users are seeing “Something went wrong, but dont fret its not your fault.” errors, while on mobile “Uh oh, an error was encountered. Try again.” errors are displayed whenever trying to read a tweet thread.

When trying to click tweets on the Twitter web app, the only thing that shows up is a “Something went wrong. Try reloading” error and a Retry button, with no sidebar menu and the user interface showing that the account has been logged out.

Users are also reporting that Twitter’s worldwide service disruption is also preventing them from sending tweets, getting logged out, and, in some cases, not being able to log back into their accounts.

    Twitter outage

Twitter is aware of the problem and it’s currently investigating the an increase in API 500/400 errors on multiple v2 endpoints.

“We’re experiencing an elevated level of API errors starting around 17:41 UTC and are currently investigating,” Twitter said on the API Status page.

“The presence and scope of any customer impact has not been determined at this time, but we will provide an update as soon as we know more.”

The list of currently impacted services includes v2 streaming Tweets endpoints, v2 RESTful users endpoints, and v2 RESTful Spaces endpoints.

How Misinformation Spreads On Social Mediaand What To Do About It

    Editor’s Note:

As widespread as misinformation online is, opportunities to glimpse it in action are fairly rare. Yet shortly after the recent attack in Toronto, a journalist unwittingly carried out a kind of natural experiment on Twitter. This piece originally appeared on Lawfare.

We take misinformation seriously, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote just weeks after the 2016 election. In the year since, the question of how to counteract the damage done by fake news has become a pressing issue both for technology companies and governments across the globe.

Yet as widespread as the problem is, opportunities to glimpse misinformation in action are fairly rare. Most users who generate misinformation do not share accurate information too, so it can be difficult to tease out the effect of misinformation itself. For example, when President Trump , his tweets tend to go viral. But they may not be going viral because of the misinformation: All those retweets may instead owe to the popularity of Trumps account, or the fact that he writes about politically charged subjects. Without a corresponding set of accurate tweets from Trump, theres no way of knowing what role misinformation is playing.

For researchers, isolating the effect of misinformation is thus extremely challenging. Its not often that a user will share both accurate and inaccurate information about the same event, and at nearly the same time.

    Problem Three: Growing Pains

And then there’s the issue of user growth. While the above noted smarter recommendations will, I believe, help in this regard, there’s also the matter of getting more people to care about Twitter in the first place, particularly in the case of younger users. There’s no one solution to boosting Twitter’s audience appeal, it’s going to require a range of targeted, intelligent moves that will keep the platform front of mind and keep people coming back to check out the new features and options.

Here’s a couple of ways the platform could look to bring in new audiences .

Integrate Periscope Entirely into Twitter – Recently, Twitter announced that Periscope content will now . That’s great, that’s a big step for both Twitter and Periscope individually, but I think they should go a step further. Periscope should be integrated entirely into the Twitter experience.

By this, I mean no more Periscope. Periscope would just become another tool within the tweet composition window – you want to do a live-stream, you do it on Twitter. Why would that help? Because Periscope’s audience is building, their platform has grown to more than 10 million users watching the equivalent of 40 years worth of video content on the platform every day. Why not have all that engagement on Twitter? That would get more audience to the platform and enable Twitter to show ads to those users – why filter those people off to another app when Twitter would work just fine as a host for such content?

‘working On Fixing A Problem’: Twitter Says Services Down For Some Users

Twitter Inc said late on Friday that it was working on fixing an access issue after thousands of users reported problems with the platform.

“Tweets may not be loading for some of you. We’re working on fixing a problem and you’ll be back on the timeline soon,” the company said in a tweet.

Around 40,000 users reported issues with the social media platform Friday, according to outage monitoring website

Downdetector tracks outages by collating status reports from a series of sources, including user-submitted errors on its platform. The outage could have affected a larger number of users.

    Elections: Propaganda And Proxies

The 25 Worst (Best) Spelling Mistakes on Twitter The Poke

The principle of elections and giving special status to a territory that has been through the horrors of war and occupation seems like a reasonable model.

But experts, like sociologist Oleksandr Shulga from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, say that Ukrainians fear the reality would differ from the principle, and that Russia resists properly defining how the processes would work in practice.

Firstly, Shulga says, it is difficult to envision Russia or its forces in eastern Ukraine allowing the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe to organise free and fair Western-style elections in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Even if they did, according to Shulga, there is a strong possibility that candidates might be members of the former authorities, who have killed Ukrainian soldiers. Amnesties for these people would be extremely controversial.

According to Shulga, people living in separatist territories have been exposed to extreme anti-Ukrainian propaganda since the war began eight years ago, and this adds another level of difficulty to any election: How can elections take place in these circumstances? Their whole frame of reference about the war is completely different. The official line from the authorities in the occupied territories follows Russian state propaganda, which describes Ukraine as perpetrating a genocide against eastern Ukraine.

    Solution: Do What Third

Here’s the thing – Twitter has access to all the data and information used to fuel these third-party analytics tools. Twitter actually has access to more insights on this front and can implement more ways to manipulate their data and find the signals amidst the noise. So why not use them?

In effect, Twitter can provide their own versions of every monitoring, tracking and tweet search tool on the market – and their versions would likely be better, as they’re coming direct from the source with access to the full range of tweet data. Twitter should take note of the applications and tools that are generating significant use and develop their own alternatives, variations of the same functionality built into Twitter’s own analytics dashboards, thereby giving users less reason to go anywhere else for the same insights.

So long as tweets remain, in the majority, public – and as noted, by design, Twitter will always be an open network – Twitter won’t be able to fully control how their data is being used. Better to either work with the third party providers for best benefit – for users and the company – or look to build better tools to beat feeder companies at their own game.

Imagine if Twitter had a Topsy-like search functionality built into their official analytics platform? Imagine a Nuzzel type tool, a TrendsMap.

Solution: Introduce Personalized Trending Topics And Follow Recommendations

I know what you’re thinking, Twitter already does this, right? Well not exactly.

Twitter does already have both Trending Content and ‘Who to Follow’ tools, but they’re not targeted. Or at least, they’re not to the levels at which Twitter could focus them. Twitter needs to use its data insights to better personalize the experience for each individual user – this is what Facebook does, and Twitter has enough data to do similar. But rather than focus on filtering the actual tweet stream , Twitter should focus on utilizing its data to make its trending topics and follow recommendations irresistible for each user.

For example, the current ‘Trending Topics’ list looks like this:

That’s a pretty generic listing – I’ve got little to no interest in pretty much all of those. And I’m a very active Twitter user, Twitter could easily infer from my on-platform activity what I’m actually interested in.

The same goes for the on-boarding process – when you sign up for Twitter, the options you’re given in terms of the data you provide the platform to indicate what you’re interested in is very broad. Case in point: this is the full listing of topic selections you’re offered when opening a new account :

Personally, I don’t know that I’m interested in any of them, but I selected ‘AU Business Leaders’ here because it’s closest to my main topic of interest on Twitter, which is social media marketing.

From that selection, I got another very generic listing of who to follow:
