Stock Launch And Tax Issues

On September 12, 2013, Twitter announced that it had filed papers with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission ahead of a planned stock market listing. It revealed its prospectus in an 800-page filing. Twitter planned to raise US$1 billion as the basis for its stock market debut. The initial public offering filing states that “200,000,000+ monthly active users” access Twitter and “500,000,000+ tweets per day” are posted. In an October 15, 2013, amendment to their SEC S-1 filing, Twitter declared that they would list on the New York Stock Exchange , quashing speculation that their stock would trade on the NASDAQ exchange. This decision was widely viewed to be a reaction to the botched . On November 6, 2013, 70 million shares were priced at US$26 and issued by lead underwriter Goldman Sachs.

In September 2016, Twitter shares rose 20% after a report that it had received takeover approaches. Potential buyers were Alphabet ,Microsoft,,Verizon, and The Walt Disney Company. Twitter’s board of directors were open to a deal, which could have come by the end of 2016. Why Use Twitter For Business

In an increasingly crowded social media landscape, there are many reasons to make Twitter a part of your organizations social media plan.

Advertising on Twitter is especially attractive because the platform punches above its weight in terms of reach. The total number of people going on Twitter every month is nearly three times larger than the number of registered users.

This means that youre not just reaching Twitter users when you tweet. Youre also reaching a wider audience of non-members who also read Twitter.

Privacy Security And Harassment

Twitter messages are public, but users can also send private “direct messages”. Information about who has chosen to follow an account and who a user has chosen to follow is also public, though accounts can be changed to “protected” which limits this information to approved followers. Twitter collects personally identifiable information about its users and shares it with third parties as specified in its privacy policy. The service also reserves the right to sell this information as an asset if the company changes hands. While Twitter displays no advertising, advertisers can target users based on their history of tweets and may quote tweets in ads directed specifically to the user.

A security vulnerability was reported on April 7, 2007, by Nitesh Dhanjani and Rujith. Since Twitter used the phone number of the sender of an SMS message as authentication, malicious users could update someone else’s status page by using SMS spoofing. The vulnerability could be used if the spoofer knew the phone number registered to their victim’s account. Within a few weeks of this discovery, Twitter introduced an optional personal identification number that its users could use to authenticate their SMS-originating messages.

On January 5, 2009, 33 high-profile Twitter accounts were compromised after a Twitter administrator’s password was guessed by a dictionary attack. Some of the compromised accounts sent falsified tweets, including drug-related messages.

Establishing a presence on Twitter shows you want to interact with consumers who expect to hold a dialogue with companies they patronize. Decide what kind of Twitter presence you want to have :

Relational Databases Mysql Postgresql Verticamysql

Twitter started with MySQL as the primary data store, from a single instance the persistence layer grew to a large number of clusters.

Twitter has one of the biggest deployments of MySQL right from its inception. It has MySQL clusters with thousands of nodes serving millions of queries per second.

MySQL has primarily two use cases

1. Acting as the storage node for the distributed data store within Twitters sharding framework. MySQL storage nodes provide reliability & performance in the overall distributed store.2. Powers services such as ads, authentication, twitter trends & many internal services.

The engineering team at Twitter has also built a scalable MySQL database service framework called Mysos.

It is based on Apache Mesos. Mesos enables Mysos to schedule, monitor & communicate with MySQL instances in the cluster.

MySQL instances were sharded with the help of a framework for creating distributed datastores called Gizzard.

Besides MySQL other SQL based data stores like PostgreSQL& Vertica are also used to store ad campaigns, sales & internal tooling data.

Cassandra was also used with MySQL as a data storage solution but it lacked the auto-increment feature which MySQL had. It did store metrics for a while & was later deprecated after Twitter started using Manhattan.

    Verified Accounts On Twitter

Twitter Explained for Newcomers to the Site

A blue checkmark next to a user’s display name indicates a verified account. This means that the social network considers the user to be a prominent brand or influential individual, and it confirms the user is who they say they are.

According to the site, an account may be verified if Twitter determines it to be of public interest. Typically, this includes accounts of public figures in music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business and other areas of popular interest.

A verified Twitter user can lose their verified status if they change their handle or protect their tweets . In these instances, Twitter will automatically review the user’s account to ensure it’s still eligible for verification. Consider this if you decide to rebrand.

In November 2017, Twitter suspended its verification process. Many users viewed it as an endorsement by Twitter and criticized the social media platform for verifying accounts of controversial people. However, in December 2020, Twitter announced that it was bringing back the verification process.

Key takeaway: The blue checkmark verifies to Twitter users that an account is the authentic profile of an influential brand or public figure. After being suspended in 2017, the verification program is back in 2021.

Assume Everything You Tweet Is Permanent

Weve all heard the stories of PR nightmares from brands tweeting inappropriate content or giving rude response to customer complaints.
