Why Does My Message Only Have One Tick In Whatsapp
If youre new to WhatsApp, you may be confused by all these grey and blue ticks. WhatsApp uses that system to let you know whether your message is delivered and whether the other person has read it or not. Once you understand how the system works, youll be able to track whats happening with your message.
This feature makes communication easier and it was introduced in order to avoid potential misunderstandings. In this article, youre going to learn everything about WhatsApp ticks and finally understand what a single tick means.
What Are Read Receipts In Whatsapp
The receipts are the checkmarks that appear next to your sent messages. Read receipts is a feature of WhatsApp that lets you hide or show blue checkmarks and message information .
When someone sends you a personal message on WhatsApp, and you read it, only then they will see two blue check marks next to the message. They can also see the exact time at which the message was read by you by tapping on the icon. But you can disable read receipts.

Q1 What Do The Checks Mean In Whatsapp
In simple words, the checks in WhatsApp are used for showing you the status of any message you have sent out to another WhatsApp user. Basically, there are three main checks that you should know about. These three checks are:
One grey checkmark
One grey checkmark is usually the first check you get immediately after sending a message. This check indicates that you have successfully sent a message from your smart device. However, this doesnt mean the intended receiver has received or read it. Notably, in some cases, the message might have left your device but it may still be floating on the network hence, it has not reached the other user.
Two grey checks
If you can see two grey checks in front of the message you sent, this shows that the message has been successfully delivered to the intended recipient. This means that your message is not floating on the network as it has reached the device of the other person. However, in most situations, two grey checks also indicate that the receiver has not read. But this may not be the case in some instances and we will explain why later.
Two blue checks
Once the recipient of the message reads it, the two grey checks will transform into two blue checks immediately. With the particular symbol, you can know that the receiver has read your message whether they reply or not.
Sending The Person A Voice Note

One of the options available in WhatsApp is sending a voice message. There are two ways to check if the recipient has played your message.
Review the Checkmarks and the Microphone Icon
As with text messages, look at the checkmarks to establish if the persons read your message. However, just because someones read it doesnt mean they listened to it. Thats why you have the microphone icon on the left of your voice message.
- If the two checkmarks are blue and the microphone icon is grey, it means the recipient saw that you sent a voice message but hasnt played it yet.
- If the two checkmarks and the microphone icon are blue, it means the recipient saw and played your message.
However, theres a trick that can be used to play the voice messages without showing the blue microphone icon. Heres how:
Message Info
Looking at the message info is another way to establish if a person received, read, and played your message:

What Do The Whatsapp Check Marks Mean
Since 2014, WhatsApp has included blue check marks or blue ticks to its chat threads. What does the blue tick or check mark that appears next to some of your WhatsApp messages mean? NextPit explains it to you.
In its official FAQ, WhatsApp refers to this as read receipts. Officially, as of today, there are 3 types of read receipts on WhatsApp:
- Single gray tick: The message was successfully sent.
- Double gray tick: The message was successfully delivered to the recipient’s phone.
- Double blue tick: The recipient has read your message.
Do be aware though that if you are in a WhatsApp chat group, the second gray or blue tick will only appear once all members of the WhatsApp chat group have received and/or read the message you sent.
How To Turn Off Whatsapp Read Receipts
All of this works because WhatsApp delivers read receipts. When a message is read, a little bit of data is sent back to the message sender. Read receipts are turned on by default, but they can be turned off.
Go to your list of messages and tap the three vertical dots menu in the upper right corner of the app and select Settings.
Tap Select Account and then Privacy.
Tap the Read receipts toggle to turn it off.
When you turn off read receipts, you no longer send back data when you open a message. You also won’t receive that data from others, so you’ll no longer see the blue check marks.

No Blue Check Marks: This Is How To Turn Them Off
If you don’t like it to have to answer directly because those two blue check marks say so, think about turning them off. Some blue checkmarks here and there can change social life drastically if ignored, because everyone can simply check if they have my full attention by comparing online status with read status. After the manufacturer got criticized they built in a way to turn this off.
How To Check Read Receipts
Each message you send will have a check mark next to it. Heres what each of them means:
- The message was delivered successfully.
- The message was successfully delivered to the phone of the recipient.
- Your message has been read by the recipient.
The second check mark has just appeared! When you send a message in group chat, it will be delivered when at least two people have checked their box. This means that all members are now recipients of your message and can read its contents if they choose to do so-two blue dots mean everyones seen what was sent.
Information About the Message
Youll be able to view a message data page for each message you send, which will show you when your message was sent, read, or played by the receiver.
To view the message information screen, go to:
- Create a private or group conversation.
- Tap and hold the message youve sent.
- Toggle the button You might also have to go to More Option> Info.
The following information is displayed on the message information screen:
Delivered:
- Your message was sent to your recipients phone, but he or individual has not yet received it.
Read or Seen:
- Your message has been read, and your image, audio file, or video has been viewed by the receiver.
- Your voice message has been received, but it has not yet been played.
Played:

Can I Turn Off The Ticks
There are two types of WhatsApp users. The first type adores this feature because they always know whats happening with their message. This gives us a certain level of control and it can reassure us that were not being ignored.
The other type doesnt care about ticks and might think that theyre a violation of privacy. Unfortunately, its not possible to turn off all ticks. Thats how WhatsApp works and you may have to choose another platform if you want to completely avoid them.
However, its possible to turn off the blue ticks. That way, the other person will know that the message is delivered to you but he wont know whether youve opened it or not. You can turn off blue ticks by entering Settings, then tapping on Account and then on Privacy.
In the Privacy section, youll see a sign that says Read Receipts. When you turn off that option, people will no longer be able to see whether youve read their message or not. Bear in mind that once you do this, you also wont be able to see whether other people have read your messages. Its a two-way street.
Of course, you can always turn blue ticks on again, if you wish to check whether someone has read your message.
However, when it comes to group chats, you wont be able to hide that youve read the message. The sender is always able to see the names of the people whove read their message. If youve sent a message to the group chat, blue ticks will appear only when all of the participants have opened your message.
How Read Receipts Affect Individual Chats
When you disable read receipts in WhatsApp settings, the sender will see only two grey checkmarks instead of blue for the messages that you have read. They wont be able to view the timestamp of the instance when you read the WhatsApp message and only the delivery time will be visible.
Turning off read receipts helps us in reading WhatsApp messages without making it apparent to the other person. But it has a drawback as well. Even you lose the right to view read receipts for your own sent messages. So if you send messages with Read receipt disabled, you will also see two grey checkmarks when a message has been read. Similarly, the message read time will not be available to you. In a nutshell, the read receipts must be enabled on both sides to view the message read information.

Completing The Verification Process
If you want to use WhatsApp, installing it on your phone isnt enough. You have to verify your phone number before being able to send and receive messages. Weve provided a step-by-step guide on how to complete the process.
If you didnt receive the code, you could try checking your internet connection, restarting your phone, or reinstalling the app.
Why Didn’t They Read My Message Yet

Wondering why the other person hasn’t seen your WhatsApp or Telegram message yet? When you don’t see the blue ticks, this can happen for a variety of reasons:
- If either party has read receipts turned off in WhatsApp, you won’t see read receipts.
- On the rare chance that the other person blocked you, you won’t see whether they read your message.
- The other person’s phone may be shut off, in airplane mode, or suffering from a poor network connection.
- Of course, they may also simply have not opened the message yet because they’re busy.
There’s also a chance that the other person has used a trick to read your message in secret without sending a read receipt. For example, they might have gone into airplane mode to read the message without triggering the “read” status. Most phones also let you preview a message from the notification bubble, which doesn’t trigger the receipt either.
If they have done something like this, there’s little you can do about it aside from plainly asking them if they saw your message.

What Do Checkmarks Mean In Whatsapp
Posted on by Mel Hawthorne
When sending messages in WhatsApp, you may have noticed that your messages come with checkmarks attached to them and that they change over time. Those checkmarks give you some information about the status of your message.
When you first send your message, you will see a small clock symbol instead of those checkmarks. This status indicates that the message is being sent but hasnt departed your phone just yet. Now the status may change so quickly that you dont often see this state.
The next stage is one with a single checkmark. This means that your message has been sent, but not yet arrived at the other persons phone. Now, if a message doesnt send because of connectivity issues and your message has one checkmark already, the issue is not on your side, but on the recipients!
When your recipient receives the message, the checkmark will get a twin two grey checkmarks mean that the message has arrived on the other persons device. In group chats only, the second mark does not appear until everyone in the group has received the message.
The final stage is when the two checkmarks turn blue this means that the other party has opened and read your message. Of course, the mark is no indicator of whether or not they actually read the message, but it means that they opened the chat, at the very least.
Check The Whatsapp Blue Ticks:
WhatsApps blue ticks are a method for revealing whether a message has received and read.
And the ticks are also a telltale clue revealing if you have been blocked.
One grey tick means the message has been sent, two grey ticks means the message has been received and two green ticks mean the message has been read.
Users who have been blocked on WhatsApp will only ever see one grey tick.
The is because, while a message may have been sent, WhatsApp will not deliver it to the contact.
Although on its own, this might mean that the user has lost their phone or cant connect to the Internet.
But in tandem with the first method, it also suggests you have probably been blocked.

Telegram And Whatsapp Checks Explained
Now you know how to find out if the other person read your message on WhatsApp or Telegram. Most of the time, these features are handy and let you confirm that the other person saw what you sent without asking for confirmation in a follow-up message.
These features don’t just apply to WhatsApp and Telegram. You have ways to hide read receipts in other messaging apps, too.
How Do I Turn Off Read Receipts
WhatsApp offers the option of turning off read receipts:
1. Open WhatsApp.
2. Tap the three dots icon at the top-right corner.
3. Tap Settings.
5. Tap Privacy.
6. Turn off the toggle button next to Read receipts.
Now, whenever someone sends you a message, theyll only be able to see that the message was received. However, its important to note that it works both ways. When you send a message, and the recipient reads it, you wont know. Youll have two grey checkmarks next to your message that merely indicates the message was delivered, even though it might have also been read.
Moreover, its worth mentioning that the read receipts for group and voice messages cant be disabled.
