Why Trump Was Banned From Twitter
Twitter permanently banned Trump from the platform on Jan. 8, 2021 due to the risk of further incitement of violence following the deadly at the U.S. Capitol. It acted after Facebook, Snapchat, Twitch and other platforms had also placed limits on the former president.
At the time of the ban, Trump had over 88 million followers on Twitter, which had served as his preferred social media megaphone throughout his presidency. Twitter said in a blog post that two tweets Trump posted on Jan. 8, 2021one in which he described his supporters as American Patriots and another in which he said he would not go to the forthcoming Jan. 20 inauguration of President Joe Bidenviolated its glorification of violence policy.
Our determination is that the two Tweets above are likely to inspire others to replicate the violent acts that took place on January 6, 2021, and that there are multiple indicators that they are being received and understood as encouragement to do so, Twitter said.
What Trump Has Said About Musks Takeover
Trump told Fox News in April that, regardless of Musks takeover, he would not return to Twitter after being permanently banned.
He said that he intended instead to remain on TRUTH Social, the alternative right-wing social platform he created under the umbrella of his media company, Trump Media & Technology Group, last year to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech.
I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH, Trump said the day Musks deal was announced. I hope Elon buys Twitter because hell make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH.
Trump has since maintained that he has no intention of rejoining Twitter. On Friday, Trump sung the praises of TRUTH Social in a post on the site in which he also addressed the news of Musks deal.
Twitter must now work hard to rid itself of all of the bots and fake accounts that have hurt it so badly. It will be much smaller, but better, he wrote. I LOVE TRUTH!
Trumps following of 4.38 million on TRUTH Social remains a fraction of the size of the audience of nearly 90 million he had on Twitter before being banned.
Trump Still Didnt Tweet His Thanks To Elon Musk And Isnt Back On Twitter
If Your Time is short
- This isnt a real tweet from the former president.
Earlier in October, it looked like former President Donald Trump had tweeted his return to Twitter, which in January 2021 permanently suspended Trump after the Capitol insurrection over concerns his comments could incite violence.
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musks expected takeover of the social media platform has prompted speculation that hed allow Trump back on Twitter, but Trumps supporters shouldnt celebrate yet.
Even so, an image circulating on Instagram on Oct. 19 suggested otherwise. What looked like a Twitter alert from Donald J. Trump that day appeared to show the former president tweeting, “Thank you Elon Musk, Im back!!!”
But Trump didnt tweet that, and @realDonaldTrump is still banned for now.
An Instagram post sharing the image was flagged as part of Facebooks efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed.
Earlier this month, the account @realDonJTru appeared to have sent a virtually identical tweet thanking Musk. This account also remains suspended after sending the false tweet Oct. 9.
We rated claims that the Oct. 9 was from the former president False. Claims that Trump sent this Oct. 19 tweet are also False.

Elon Musk Hints That Donald Trump Will Not Be Back On Twitter Before The Midterms
Elon Musk indicated on Wednesday that the Twitter account of former President Donald Trump will not be restored ahead of the US midterm elections next week, answering one of the biggest unknowns following his takeover of the social media company.
Musk confirmed early Wednesday morning that Twitter will not allow anyone who was de-platformed for violating Twitter rules back on platform until we have a clear process for doing so, which will take at least a few more weeks. The billionaire Twitter owner had previously said he would start a content moderation council and that no major content decisions would be made until it was in place.
Prior to acquiring Twitter last week, Musk had pledged to roll back at least some of platforms content moderation policies and do away with permanent account bans. He had also specifically said he would restore the personal account of Trump, who was banned from the platform shortly after the Jan. 6 insurrection at the US Capitol.
Trump, who previously used Twitter to make news, attack critics and set the agenda in DC, has said he is glad Twitter is now in sane hands following the Musk takeover but claimed he would not be returning to the platform. Instead he plans to stay on his own social network, Truth Social. Trump had tens of millions more followers on Twitter than he does on Truth Social.
Former Us President Donald Trump Was Barred From Twitter Following The January 2021 Capitol Hill Incident
Is Donald Trump coming back on Twitter? The question about the return of the former president of the United States on the microblogging site has popped up over and over again ever since Elon Musk had announced the bid to buy the social media platform. The tech billionaire, whose sarcasm and social media humour gets noticed as often as his business decisions, on Monday tweeted about this. If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if Trump is coming back on this platform, Twitter would be minting money! , he wrote in a post.
Trump was banished from social media following the Capitol Hill incident in January 2021 ahead of the US presidential elections. He was accused of putting out instigating posts. “After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around themwe have permanently suspended the account,” Twitter wrote in a blog at the time.
If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if Trump is coming back on this platform, Twitter would be minting money!
Following last weeks takeover of Musk, the former US president – on his own social media platform – reacted, saying: I am very happy that is now in sane hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country.

Will Donald Trump Go Back On To Twitter
Donald Trump was fiercely critical of Twitter when he was banned, supposedly for life.
After the Capitol Hill riots Twitter said the permanent suspension was “due to the risk of further incitement of violence”.
Mr Trump even sued Twitter, about what he described as “censorship”.
However that “permanent” suspension now looks a lot less certain.
Elon Musk tweeted that he would introduce a “council’ that would take a decision on whether Donald Trump would be allowed back.
But if Mr Trump is invited back on to the platform, you might think it would be a no-brainer for him to make a return.
After all, just like Elon Musk, Donald Trump loves Twitter. For Mr Trump it was his way of connecting directly with voters, bypassing the traditional media.
Ironically, it was also a way of getting attention from the media he claimed to shun. “He’s tweeted” was a regular refrain across the world’s newsrooms.
But times have changed. There are now several reasons why Mr Trump may not come running back to Twitter.
Firstly he now owns and runs his own social media company, known as “Truth Social”.
It looks almost exactly like Twitter – and allows people to post “Truths”. It’s owned by Mr Trump – so he has a direct financial interest in the success of the company.
And by far the biggest asset that Truth Social has is Donald Trump.
Donald Trump won’t get paid a cent for tweeting on Twitter. He could benefit hugely if Truth Social becomes a major social media platform though.
Musk Says Twitter Is Forming A Content Moderation Council
Musk tweeted Friday that he’ll be “digging in” on lifting shadow bans and rolling back restrictions on users. He later tweeted that Twitter would form a content moderation council “with widely diverse viewpoints.”
“No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes,” Musk said.

Trump Return Could Be Risky For Twitter
A return to mainstream social media carries risks for Twitter and for democracy because it would surely raise the temperature of our politics and significantly increase the likelihood of political violence, says Brian Ott, a communications professor at Missouri State University.
Trump has continued to falsely claim the 2020 election was stolen.
It would be a colossal mistake for Twitter to reinstate Trump on its platform,” Ott said. “He was removed for good reason, namely repeatedly violating their terms of service and for inciting violence.”
Musk: ‘it Was Not Correct’ To Ban Trump From Twitter
Facebook’s parent company, Meta, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on Musk’s statements.
A spokesperson for YouTube’s parent company, Google, said the company had no updates beyond a March 2021 statement from YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, who said then that the platform would lift its suspension of Trump once the risk of incitement to violence had decreased.
Musk said he had spoken to Dorsey about permanent bans, a subject about which Dorsey has been ambivalent, and that he believes they undermine trust in Twitter as a service.
“Now, that doesn’t mean that somebody gets to say whatever they want to say,” Musk said at the Financial Times event.
“If they say something that is illegal or otherwise destructive to the world, then there should perhaps be a timeout, a temporary suspension, or that particular tweet should be made invisible or have very limited traction,” he said.

Will Elon Musk Open The Doors Of Twitter To Donald Trump
Musk recently took Twitter’s full operation
Elon Musk just took control of Twitter, and several users asked if Donald Trump will be back on the platform-
“If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if Trump is coming back on this platform, Twitter would be minting money!” Elon Musk tweeted regarding the question.
Elon Musk completed the acquisition of Twitter, and right-wing followers demanded Trump’s return. Even the same Donald Trump celebrated Musk’s ascension.
“I am very happy that Twitter is now in safe hands, and will no longer be run by Radical Left Lunatics and Maniacs that truly hate our country,” the 45th president wrote in his Truth Social post.
There May Be No Twitter Comeback For Trump
Even if the former presidents account is restored, the moment might have passed.
Given all the attention that Elon Musks takeover of Twitter has drawn, one might forget how little it will affect most people. Although Musk fancies the platform a common digital town square, Twitter reports just 238 million daily active users in a world of nearly 8 billion. It just so happens, though, that there is a strong overlap among people who report the news, people who use Twitter, and people who are interested in Elon Musk.
But Musk could make one move that would have wide-ranging effects even for the prudent majority that avoids Twitter: welcoming back Donald Trump. Musk vowed in May to lift the former presidents ban from Twitter. He started making changes at the company yesterday, firing Twitters management team and announcing, The bird is freed.
Trump was never the most-followed figure on Twitter, but he was the most consequential, using the platform as a crucial tool to get himself elected president. His removal following the January 6 insurrection was a pivotal moment for Twitter and himself. Trump is always unpredictable, but there seem to be two likely outcomes for an escape from his digital Elba. Either Trumps return to Twitter proves a return to the toxicity of the 2010s, in which his presence harms democracy but helps Democrats, or else the peculiar mix of factors that made him a Twitter phenomenon is no longer attainable.

After A Zoom Meeting Twitters New Owner Said That No Suspended Accounts Will Return To The Site Until There Is A Clear Process For Doing So
Elon Musk extended an olive branch Wednesday to civil rights groups worried about the prevalence of hate speech on Twitter by pledging not to reinstate banned accounts until there was a clear process in place for doing so. But that concession angered far-right influencers who had previously welcomed Musks ownership, and they accused him of being a traitor to their cause.
The developments signaled the rocky path ahead for the billionaire who touted his support for free speech on a platform that is struggling to both rid itself of bigotry and generate new revenue.
Hours after meeting with representatives of civil rights groups over Zoom, Musk tweeted that it would probably take weeks for the company to design a process for reinstating user accounts a vow that means former president Donald Trump will not rejoin the site before the midterm elections.
Musk also pledged that members of the civil rights community and representatives from groups that face hate-fueled violence would be included in an outside content moderation council that he has said will advise the company on policy matters.
Twitter will continue to combat hate & harassment & enforce its election integrity policies, Musk tweeted.
Representatives of the groups Musk had met with over Zoom saw his tweeted assurances as important, but they indicated that it was unclear whether he would follow through on his pledge to fight hate speech and misinformation.
Trump Won’t Say If He Will Use His Twitter Account If Musk Reinstates It
Trump posted to his Truth Social account Friday that he was “very happy that Twitter is now in sane hands.” He added: “I LOVE TRUTH!”
“I dont think Twitter can be successful without me,” Trump told Fox Digital News Friday.
He also said he planned to remain on Truth Social, which he saidis “better,” “safe” feels “like home.”
“I like Elon and I wish him a lot of luck. I hope he does well with it, Trump said.
If Musk lifts the permanent ban, Trumps account would be reinstated. Trump declined to say if he would use it again.
‘banning Trump From Twitter Didn’t End Trump’s Voice’
The de-platforming of Trump and other figures on the political right sparked outrage among conservatives who accuse Facebook and other major social media platforms of censorship and liberal biases.
“BanningTrumpfrom Twitter didnt endTrumps voice. It will amplify it among the right and this is why its morally wrong and flat-out stupid,” Musk has said.
Jack Dorsey, Twitter’s former CEO, agreed that Twitter should not have permanent bans. Trumps ban, he said, was a business decision and shouldnt have been.
Elon Musk Clarifies That Donald Trump And Other Banned Accounts Won’t Be Allowed Back On Twitter Before The Midterm Elections If At All
Elon Musk said banned Twitter accounts will not be allowed back for “at least a few more weeks.”
This means that former president Donald Trump will not be on Twitter before the midterm elections.
Trump was suspended from Twitter in January 2021 after the Capitol riot for inciting violence.
Elon Musk’s tweet about banned Twitter accounts not being allowed back on the platform for “at least a few more weeks,” means Donald Trump won’t be back before the midterm elections.
Musk tweeted that users who were “de-platformed for violating Twitter rules” won’t be allowed back “until we have a clear process for doing so,” and also said he “talked to civil society leaders” like the presidents of the NAACP and Color of Change, about how the platform will “combat hate & harassment & enforce its election integrity policies.”
Former president Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter after the violent attack by his supporters on the US Capitol in January 2021, “due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” Twitter said in its blog.
Twitter’s new owner, Musk, previously said Trump’s suspension from Twitter was a “morally bad decision” and “foolish to the extreme,” and said he would reverse the ban. Trump has said that he but many suspect that could change.
When podcast host Chris Stigall asked Trump about Twitter on Tuesday, Trump promoted Truth Social, saying he likes the way it works better.
