Linkedin Tip #: Hide The People Also Viewed Box On Your Sidebar
The People Also Viewed box does exactly what it says when someone is viewing your page, it shows other LinkedIn profiles that your previous visitors looked at.
This box can show colleagues, friends, others in your industry, etc. Usually, these people will have a lot in common with you.
Since these people will often have a similar skillset, by allowing this box to stay on your profile, youre making it easier for a recruiter, hiring manager, or client to scope out your competition.Take the box off your page by visiting Privacy & Settings.
Connect With As Many People As Possible
Dont be annoying or weird, but dont be afraid to accept connection requests or offer to connect with the people LinkedIn suggests. You never know who might be valuable to know.
Connecting doesnt cost you anything, so it cant hurt. Id say that in general, you dont have to know someone as well to connect with them on LinkedIn as you would to add them on Facebook. And whats more, LinkedIn works to connect you with people with whom you already have a connection.
When you do connect with someone, however, make sure to personalize the default message that LinkedIn uses for connection requests. You dont have to make it elaborate or long, but do make it personal. If you can explain someone why it makes sense to connect with you, theyll be more likely to accept.
Whatever you do, dont be like this guy that tried to connect with me the other day:

Because the most filled-out profiles on LinkedIn come up first in a recruiters search.

So make sure to check out all the profile sections LinkedIn lets you include and add and fill in as many of them as you can. And no worries, we will now walk you through how exactly to do that for each essential section.

This digital marketing and sales expert does this well for his marketing agency by calling out the problem. He does this before introducing himself or his solution.

The LinkedIn profile summary is one of the first things people see when they visit your profile. Its part of the introductory business card at the top of your profile that also includes your name, photo, headline, most recent company, education, and contact information. This information is above the fold on both desktop and mobile, meaning its one of the first elements visible on your profile and someone doesnt have to scroll down to find it.
When most users visit your profile, theyll see the first 300 characters or so of your summary (and can then click Read More to open up the full description. However, LinkedIn Recruiter shows the entire summary by default.

Why Have A Linkedin Summary
When filling in your LinkedIn profile, your primary concern is to present a complete CV and to emphasize your strengths. This information on LinkedIn is presented in a modular way. The opening paragraph, which makes up the summary, is often left for last: Many users dont complete this bit or dont use it at all. This doesnt come as a surprise, as a lot of people find it difficult to write about themselves. But when it comes to LinkedIn, this step is vital. After glancing at your profile photo, visitors are directly led to your introduction. The summary has a very prominent place on a profile and should be carefully considered.

A summary lets you introduce yourself in your own words. This means that you can dive into your professional skills as well as who you are as a person. A LinkedIn summary, then, also provides insight into your personality. And using your own words increases the meaning of the text. Because not only is it important what you write, but how you write it.

How To Write A Killer Linkedin Summary
When setting out to write your summary, remember how LinkedIn users will interact with it on your profile. When someone goes to your profile, theyll scan your title and location, see your photo, and notice if you have under 500 connections. After that, theyll likely turn to your summary to get to know you. Its the equivalent of a public cover letter: it gives your contacts a sense of who you are before they read what youve done.

Because its so visible , your summary is the best place to capture your potential new contacts attention and give them a glimpse of your personality. Therefore, the most important rule of writing a LinkedIn summary is to make it original. You are a unique, talented professional, and your summary should capture the things that make you the greatest social media manager, writer, banker, underwater basket-weaver, etc.
Before you start writing your LinkedIn summary, you should do two things. First, search for leaders in your field, and check out the key terms they use to describe themselves. These keywords will help your profile appear in LinkedIns search results. Then, ask yourself these questions, and jot down any surprising things you discover:
- Who am I at work?
- What are the core features and values of my personality?
- What unique perspectives and experience do I bring to my field?
- What original ideas have I brought to the place where I work now?
