Gmails Undo Send feature only delays the email it doesnt actually recall accidental messages sent to others. In other words, if you set the Send Cancellation Period to 30 seconds, Gmail doesnt actually send the message until 30 seconds after you click Send. After that, theres nothing you can do but send a follow-up whoopsie email or wait for the response.

Heres how to customize Undo Send:

Step 1: Sign in to Gmail with your account.

Step 2: Click the Gear icon located in the top right corner.

Step 3: Click the See All Settings link in the roll-out menu.

Step 4: The Undo Send option is located under the General tab. Click the down arrow to select a delay in seconds from five to 30.

If you are worried about sending the wrong email, you probably want to set the cancellation period to at least 10 seconds, just to be safe. Five seconds isnt very long to realize you made a mistake and click the Undo button.

Step 5: Scroll down to the bottom and click the Save Changes button.

    How To Enable Email Unsending

As mentioned before, Gmails Undo Send feature is automatically turned on for a default period of five seconds. We know, it is too short!

You can adjust this time period up to 30 seconds, though, which gives you the chance to retract emails even after pressing Send.

Heres what you need to do:

Step #1 Log in to your Gmail account.

Step #2 Click on Settings its the cogwheel icon on the top right-hand side of your screen.

Step #3 Go to See all settings from the dropdown menu.

Step #4 Youll see the General tab settings by default, which is exactly where youre supposed to be.

Towards the middle of your screen, youll find the Undo Send field. Choose the number of seconds you want to increase your cancellation window frame after clicking on the dropdown arrow beside it.

There are four options: 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 20 seconds, and 30 seconds. While the default is five seconds, we would recommend keeping a 10 seconds time frame.

You, of course, have the choice to choose a duration you find most suitable.

Step #5 After changing the cancellation period, scroll your cursor below and click on Save Changes to save your new time frame.

You have now changed your settings and extended the cancellation time frame. Wasnt that super simple?

Keep in mind that the way the Undo Send feature works is not sending this message to the recipient and then withdrawing it. Instead, it delays the sending of the email.

Likely Outcomes When You Recall Outlook Email

Okay, so you’ve successfully recalled your email and it’s now back with you, safe and sound, right? The message will be just as it was when you sent it, right? Wrong! That isn’t always the case. Several factors can alter the original email, so consider that. Here are some of them:

    • If the person who received the email has already eagerly read the email, perhaps thinking it’s a reply from his crush, the recall will fail. The result will be the original email and the new one both being accessible to the recipient.
    • If, on the other hand, the recipient was a bit slow to open the original email and instead opens up the recall one fist, you’re safe. Why? Because the original email is gotten rid of, but that’s not all. Outlook will still rat you out! It will tell the recipient that a message was deleted from their mailbox.
    • If the person you sent the email to has already enabled the “Process requests and responses on arrival”, located under “Tracking Options”, but is still yet to brush over the original email you sent, Outlook takes charge and deletes the original email. It also notifies the recipient that you got rid of the email.
    • If the original email you sent has already been read by the recipient while the recall email has also been written and processed, he will be notified that you’re attempting to delete the email.

It should also be pointed out that using Outlook on your phone to recall an email is pointless because it won’t work. So, there you have it.
