How To Disable New Primary Social And Promotions Tabs In Gmail
Google has recently pushed out a new tabbed interface to Gmail users, with the intent of wanting to make it easier to organize inboxes . If you are like me, the new tabbed interface is actually more confusing than helpful. As such, you probably want a way to be able to turn it off. If so then you are in the right place. This article shows you how to disable, turn off, and remove the new Primary, Social, and Promotions tabs in Gmail.
Drag And Drop Emails Into The Primary Tab
The simplest way to;stop;important emails from landing in your Promotions tab is to drag and drop that email into your Primary tab.
This should ensure that any future emails;coming;from this email address sender will now be sent directly to your Primary tab instead of;the Promotions;tab, but this method is not a permanent solution.
Make sure to open;any emails that are from this sender when they arrive in your Primary tab. This helps Google understand that you value these emails and they deserve to be in the Primary tab.
Otherwise, Google could assume that;as you aren’t opening these emails, they are promotional and should be automatically categorized under your Promotions tab.
Disable The Troublesome Gmail Promotions Tab
The problem I have with that description is other. Ive noticed newsletters that I want to read daily end up in the Promotions tab. Newsletters that are not marketing at all, but let me know what articles I can read on a website. In my opinion, the Promotions tab seems like the pseudo-spam tab.; If this is the case for you, its easy to move them to your primary tab, which is ideally where all of your important mail should be.
To move a message from Promotions to Primary, just do a simple drag and drop.
Then after moving your message to your primary tab, make sure to verify you want it to come there all the time.
Now ideally, that should be the last time you have to think about it, and the newsletter or message you want will always appear in your Primary box.

It is the most natural action in the world to enter your email address for some prize. Well, if its a list I want to be on, and the content is not dull, and ads may be about things I will want to buy, I may decide to stay and consume it.
Let me clarify that last sentence: If youre an author and try to sell me your book in an email, thats fine. I will probably unsubscribe when you send me an article full of affiliate links that will get you money but arent necessarily attractive to me.
But, overall, I am now far more sensitive than I was and will turn down subscriptions that I dont want to consume in my inbox.

How To Prevent Emails From Going To Promotions In Gmail
There are things you can do to improve the chances of your email arriving somewhere other than the Promotions tab. One way how to get emails out of promotions is to avoid practices that make your messages look like a promotion.
Lots of images in your email: Anything with more than one image looks like a promotion. Stick to emails that look like plain text, as if you sent it from an email software platform. Definitely avoid a masthead and stick to a common, even ordinary email signature.
More than one or two links in your email: One link per email. Opinion is divided whether repeating the same link more than once impacts your inbox placement. Tests prove both, so test your own emails to see what the result is.
If its from your brand, rather than you: Always make the email from you, not your brand. And, let your personality stand out. People buy from people, not machines. Be sure your audience knows your story and what you stand for.
Lots of fancy HTML code in your email: Clever email templates look great and businesses love them, but fancy HTML coded templates often end up languishing in Promotions.
Links to your social media profiles in your signature : As mentioned, too many links will land you in Promotions, but, more importantly, youve worked hard to get someone to open and read your mail. Why send them to Facebook or Instagram when you want them to follow the call-to-action in your email?
