Tip #: Promote Your Pins With Video & Rich Pins
Pinterest recently released promoted video pins , which are targeted at mobile users. These pins feature an animated GIF and give the user access to the full video when they are clicked on. Tip: You can add up to six additional pins below your promoted video for no additional cost. These pins display in carousel format under the video, and they can be used to promote the video content or share additional information.
Though video pins send users to externals sites such as YouTube to actually view the video, Pinterest is currently developing its own native video player, which should be released soon. This will allow users and businesses to upload videos directly to Pinterest.
Similar to and open graphs, Rich Pins are a free feature that allows users to pin more than just an image. In addition, you can add information about your blog post, product or location directly in the pin. There are five variations of rich pins. Article pins that include the author and link and headline, product pins that feature availability and pricing details, film pins that feature crew and cast details and rating, recipe pins that feature ingredients and other related information and location pins that include maps and address.
Choose Your Campaign Goal
Each campaign starts at with an objective. Choosing the right goal is important because it will determine what ad formats are available and how you bid in the ad auction.
There are four campaign objectives available:
- Get traffic to your website. Earn high-quality leads and send Pinners to your website. You pay-per each click.
- Build brand awareness. Gain broad exposure with current and prospective customers. You get charged per 1,000 impressions.
- Increase installs for your app. There are two ways to promote app downloads on Pinterest. When you pay by install, Pinterest regularly adjusts your bid based on your budget. When you pay by the click, your ad is optimized for click traffic.
- Build awareness through video views. Autoplay videos are ideal for promoting awareness and consideration. You pay per 1,000 impressions.

Boards And Board Types

Boards
Think of Pinterest boards as digital mood boards. Use boards to save, collect and organize your Pins. Many use boards to group Pins according to a certain theme or topic. For example, you might create a board around the planning of a product launch event, for seasonal content, or for wedding inspiration.
Group boards
Group boards are the same as regular boards, except more than one person can add content. This format is ideal for marketers looking to share ideas or plans with their team, as anyone can contribute.
Secret boards
A secret board can only be seen by its creator and invited collaborators. When you create one, youll see a lock symbol beside the board name. These are useful for planning you dont want to be public secret boards wont appear in the home feed, in search, or anywhere publicly on Pinterest.
Protected boards
Similar to secret boards, protected boards live at the bottom of your Pinterest profile and only you can see them. However, the Pins on these protected boards can be seen across Pinterest if a Pinner has a direct link.

What Are Promoted Pins
A promoted pin is a paid ad on Pinterest. You can target certain locations, demographics and devices and reach customers who are searching for or have shown an interest in what you offer.
Promoted pins run on a cost-per-click basis. A campaign has a specified daily budget and duration. You pay only when someone clicks though the pin to your website. You can monitor and adjust your campaign as it runs.
Like with any social network, they have a few rules. For example, there can be no promotional information, calls to action, service claims, price listing or deceptive content in the pin image. Ads must be accurate, and lead to a relevant landing page with no signup requests.

Follow Business Account Best Practices
Promoting your company through a Pinterest business account instead of a personal one is the recommended move, since the former account type provides helpful features, such as the ability to include rich media in Pins and access to advanced analytics. Youll have to adhere to certain legal terms when you do, however. For example, you cant do anything that can be considered spam. If you run sweepstakes, you cant ask followers to re-pin your content as an entry. You also cant bombard followers with requests to comment on your Pins or re-pin your content.

Create Long And Vertical Pins
Youve probably heard this a million times, but its worth reiterating. I still see square pins all the time on Pinterest. With affiliate pins, I make my pins longer than usual so that they stand out. My pins are typically somewhere between 735 x 1250 and 735 x 1400. I also experiment with smaller pins , and they do well too. There is no set rule for the exact dimensions your pins should be. Just make sure they are vertical. I use both PicMonkey and Canva to create my pins. PicMonkey has an edge over Canva in terms of features.

I find the hardest part of this is writing the pin descriptions Try to say something conversational and natural about your product. Have a call to action at the end.
While I was researching this article
How do you manage all these descriptions?
I write all my pin descriptions on a spreadsheet and reuse them but I do vary them a lot just by tweaking a few words. This way I can just copy and paste the descriptions over. I adjust a couple of words each time to tie in with the pin image.

Should You Have Personal Boards On Your Business Account
Theres some controversy about this. Some people say yes. They even recommend going into your Pinterest analytics and making boards on other interests of your audience even if theyre not your interests.

As a Pinner whos had a somewhat-business-related Pin go viral , I can tell you it caused me a huge waste of time and money.
Even though that Pin was vaguely related to my business , I probably got fewer than 5 people on my business email list from that viral Pin.
I spent a ton of time making a content upgrade for that blog post, set up an email list for it, tried to figure out a way to monetize

Build An Audience And Then Sell
You need to build an audience first. And after you gain followers, you can start promoting your products.
On Facebook and Twitter or other social networks where you share posts every day, you might be able to promote your products more than once daily. But on Pinterest, the best way to promote items is to create a dedicated board where you pin the products you want to sell.
Remember, you want to pin your products only once because if you do it over and over again, youll appear to be overpromoting yourself.
When you first pin one of your products, you want to get as many initial likes, repins and comments as possible. This will add social proof to your products, encourage users to check out the product and increase the likelihood of more direct shares in the future.
So focus on building an audience first by sharing content regularly and then pin your products to your page.

So focus on building an audience first and .
