Pin Fresh Content Consistently
One of the best ways to keep pinners engaged is to create new content for them to browse through on a regular basis.
The images need to catch peoples eye, and the blog posts that they link to need to be helpful as well.
Bottom line: if you want to grow your audience, you need to create content that solves problems and fills needs .
Tag Products In Shop The Look Pins
Shop the Look Pins are a great way to link to several products at once in a single Pin. Whether its an outfit or home decor post, each product available for purchase in the photo is shown via a white dot that users can click on to see more.
You can share photos of your models wearing an outfit of your latest collection or a room filled with your furniture or similar products to promote more products on the platform.
The process for Shop the Look Pins is manual, and once your Pin is linked to your claimed website, you can tag as many products as youd like.
Carefully Plan Your Boards
As , your brands boards can help reach new Pinners interested in specific topics or learning specific things.
For example, Oreos boards include Pins with inspiration for upcoming seasonal holidays like its Spooky Sweet Halloween board and Holidays with Oreo board as well as recipe ideas, like its Oreo Cupcakes and Oreo Cookie Balls board.
In other words, the brand skillfully mixes useful, engaging and inspiring content boards with boards that are more promotional:
And Aveeno has boards for their own products, like Aveeno Body and Sun Care boards:
But the brand also has other boards, like the Earth Day board that includes Pins indirectly showcasing the brand while showing an understanding of what their audience values and supports.

How To Create Pins That Are Not Only Going Viral On The Platform Itself But Also Can Generate A Ton Of Organic Traffic To Your Website
In other words, how should you design your pins to increase the click-through rate to your site?
But how can you convince and intrigue users to click-through?
1. The first thing you need to know is that text overlays significantly increase click-through rates. Even if you are posting a recipe pin, you still should add a text overlay to make it clear what kind of food is on the image is it a healthy meal? Is it suitable for any popular diet? Does it have a short preparation time? The text overlay can explain better what is on your image and can promise users solutions to their problems.
2. But text overlay can be done completely wrong and decrease the click-through. This happens when you are trying to give it all away in the pin image. Infographics often get a lot of shares and saves but not click-throughs specifically for this reason. If people get all they needed on the pin image, why would they click to your website? You have to give them a reason for this click give them 5 out of 10 tips and make it clear that theyll find the rest on your site.
3. Now, if you are driving traffic to a product, I recommend creating pins which show your products in a lifestyle image, not just a product on a white background. People will engage better with lifestyle pins, they will share them and click through better as well. On a product pin with a white background, the commercial side of the pin is too obvious and this may decrease your click-through rates.

Look At What Posts And What Days
Another interesting one to check is what days your top posts saw the most traffic.
If you are making fresh pins for it, this could help you pick when to send them out.
Select a blog post and set the time frame to 30 days or more.
Are there any patterns in the days?
Plus, you can see which Pins resonated most.
Links With Utm Parameters
Although you might provide a link to the content you’re promoting in the pin’s description , it’s just as important to include this link in the image you’re pinning. If the image you’re pinning already lives somewhere online, this is easy to do — you’ll simply add the website link first, then select the image you want to pin once this link has been entered.

Colors And Types Of Images That Get More Engagement On Pins
Now lets have a look at the best color schemes and understand which are the types of Images that Get More Engagement
These tips are based on the research made by Curalate. They made a research based on the analysis of 30 different visual characteristics with an impressive sample of 500k images on Pinterest!
- Images that are too dark receive 20 times less repins than images with medium brightness.
- The next tip is about colors. Your image should include at least a few vibrant colors. We are talking here about yellow, pink, red, etc. Based on their study, images with red and pink tones get on average twice more repins than images with blue tones.
- The next thing is the quality of your image. Images of low resolution not only look bad on a users screen, but Pinterest can also recognize the quality of the image and reduce the distribution of low-quality images. That was based on the research. But Id like to add a few tips based on my experience on Pinterest.
- Dont use script fonts in your text overlay for the pins. Actually, any font that is hard to read shouldnt be used for pin images. Because you have less than a second to grab the users attention while they are scrolling down the feed. Users will not bother to read and understand what your pin is about when there are so many other pins next to yours which were better designed.
And now I want to answer the most important question of this article.

Write Better Descriptions Keyword
Pinterest also took the extra step to as well:
- Use correct capitalization and punctuation
- No hashtags
- No promotional information
- No salesy calls to action
While only about 75-100 characters of your description will appear in grid view, you can include up to 500 and theyll all appear when people click to see the Pin close-up. Generally speaking, more characters mean more helpful details and more opportunities to show up in search results.
This all seemed like great advice to test and see. We went through each of the bullets here, both in the general tips and the specific best practices.
Heres what we found.
Short descriptions vs. long descriptions
We tested out whether writing a detailed, keyword-rich description would bring more Repins, likes, and comments to our pins.
Looking at our stats for Repins, likes, and comments, our top pins were those with a short description, 100 characters or fewer.
Our longer pins found much less engagement overall in the past few weeks. One thing to consider here: Longer, keyword-rich descriptions are valuable for being found via search, which can extend the life of a pin. It could be the case that these keyword-rich pins of ours will continue to see engagement further out into the future.
Hashtags vs. no hashtags
Link vs. no link
Accompanying Title And/or Descriptive Picture
Instead, choose an image that reflects the link’s contents. If you’re struggling to convey an abstract concept, feel free to add text to your image to describe it. The above example didn’t need that — the icons themselves conveyed what was behind the link: free downloadable icons. If you want an example of a great pin with text on it, check the one out below. Without the title on the image, the pin wouldn’t nearly be as strong — people would have no idea that this was an ebook they could download.
Moral of the story here: make sure that people know what’s inside the pin so they feel enticed to click. If you feel like the image isn’t pulling its weight on its own, add text. That little bit of text could make the difference between someone clicking on your pin or not.

Try Different Pin Formats
Mix it up! Pin a video encouraging Pinners to shop at your e-commerce store or try adding multiple photos to a Pin to create a carousel.
For example, Nike uses video to promote its products:
And carousels to show a variety of products in one Pin:
But even though 80% of Pinners discover a new brand or product on Pinterest, think beyond shopping and explicitly promoting your brand.
For example, Nespresso pins step-by-step content to engage Pinners with its brand:
Add Title And Description

Write your video pin title and description. The title must accurately state what your video is about. Search engine optimized descriptions should be no more than 500 characters maximum. If you are pinning more than one video, write additional text for each video explaining to viewers what each video on the pin is about.

Use Multiple Images Within A Pin
This multiple-image strategy is one that many have used to great success with DIY posts and how to guides. You place multiple images into one, creating a single image that can be pinned.
Best practices with multi-image mosaics are to use four or fewer separate images in your mega image.
Canva templates work really well for putting something like this together.
One of the interesting things for us when tried out this tactic is finding out how well this might fit with our content and niche. We write about social media tips, not home improvement, beauty, cooking, etc. Will our tutorials work as multi-image Pins?
Heres what we found.
We created a mosaic image for a recent blog post, and that image received 7 repins, more than double the average for a typical pin from the Buffer blog.
A Lot Of Other Great Pins
This is kind of a trick element because it’s not technically in the pin itself, but because of the way the pin layout looks when expanded, I had to include it here. Try clicking on a pin in Pinterest — when you expand the pin, all the other pin images from the user’s board are pulled in. This gives you more opportunities to engage with your Pinterest followers all without doing a thing.
