How To Enable Twitter Dark Mode For Ios 1:
- To enable dark mode support in the Twitter app, make sure you have the latest version of the Twitter app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Then, open the app, swipe on the left edge of the screen to open the Twitter sidebar.
- Navigate to Settings and privacy -> Display and sound -> Dark mode.
- Make sure that the Use device settings option is enabled. This will then make Twitter mirror the system theme, matching the active Light or Dark Mode of your device. In iOS Settings, you can optionally set dark mode to respond to sunrise and sunset.
The Use device settings option toggle is on by default, but if you had previously tweaked Twitters theme options, it might be disabled until you manually go and change it.
On the same Dark mode preference pane inside of the Twitter app, the Theme option gives you one layer of additional customizability. Twitter actually offers two dark themes a dark blue theme and a true black theme .
The Lights out theme is the one that matches the Apple stock app dark color palette the closest. Whatever theme you select, that is the one that will be used when Twitter is running in dark mode.
Expect a lot more apps to add official Dark Mode support in the coming days and week. iOS 13 is available for iPhone users on September 19, and Dark Mode launches on iPad with iPadOS on September 30.

Twitter Now Autoswitches To Dark Mode Based On Your Os Settings
If Twitter is suddenly using a dark mode theme, you are not alone. Starting yesterday, Twitter automatically switched to a dark or light theme based on your operating system settings.
When switching to a dark mode based on your OS settings, Twitter will use the ‘Lights Out’ theme, which uses the black color for the site’s background, as shown below.
Twitter dark mode
This new auto-dark mode feature appears to be only working Chromium-based browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft, Edge, and Brave.
To control this feature, Twitter uses the ‘prefers-color-scheme’ CSS media query that allows web sites to modify a page’s theme and layout based on the operating system’s preferences.
For example, in the code below, you see how Twitter checks whether the computer is configured in a dark theme, and if it is, changes the background color of the page to black .

Enable Or Disable Automatic Dark Mode
If this is your first time enabling dark mode, Twitter might ask you if you’d like to turn the option on and off automatically based on the time of day. If you chose “Not Now” but wish you chose “Yes,” you can easily enable this option at any time. Note: this feature no longer applies to devices running iOS 13, since automatic dark mode can be configured in your iPhone’s system settings.
On iPhones with the light bulb icon, the fastest way to do this is to long-press this icon. When the submenu appears, you can easily activate “Automatic dark mode” by tapping on the slider.
If you want to go the long way about it, enter the side menu again, then tap “Settings and privacy.” Next, choose “Display and sound.” On iOS, you can simply tap “Automatic dark mode,” and Twitter will react accordingly. On Android, tap “Dark Mode,” then tap “Automatic at sunset.”
If you have an iPhone X, XS, or XS Max, you might notice that your dark mode doesn’t match the color shown above. That’s because, by default, Twitter uses its OLED “Lights out” mode for OLED iOS devices. See below for instructions on switching between normal “Dark mode” and “Lights out.”

Storing A Users Preference
What weve looked at so far definitely does what it says in the tin: swap themes based on an OS preference or a button click. This is great, but doesnt carry over when the user either visits another page on the site or reloads the current page.
We need to save the users choice so that it will be applied consistently throughout the site and on subsequent visits. To do that, we can save the users choice to the localStorage when the theme is toggled. Cookies are also well-suited for the job.
Lets look at both approaches.
Using localStorage
We have a script that saves the selected theme to localStorage when the toggle takes place. In other words, when the page is reloaded, the script fetches the choice from localStorage and applies it. JavaScript is often executed after CSS, so this approach is prone to a flash of incorrect theme .
// Select the buttonconst btn = document.querySelector // Select the theme preference from localStorageconst currentTheme = localStorage.getItem // If the current theme in localStorage is "dark"...if // Listen for a click on the button btn.addEventListener // Then save the choice in localStorage localStorage.setItem })
Using Cookies with PHP
To avoid FLIC, we can use a server-side script like PHP. Instead of saving the users theme preference in localStorage, we will create a cookie from JavaScript and save it there. But again, this may only be feasible if youre already working with a server-side language.
