Write A Good Board Description

Keywords matter here too! Include phrases your target audience is searching for.

Learn more about here.

But do incorporate your keywords into those sentences! In my Google SERPs example above, you can see how the keyword phrases are picked up and highlighted.

I would shoot for at least 200 characters of description.

Should I use hashtags in my board description?

Hashtags arent helpful in your board description. are only intended for Pin descriptions.

How To Remove Or Block A Friend Friends

If youve already added someone on Snapchat but you changed your mind and now you want to delete them from your friends list, heres how to do it:

  • Swipe right to open the screen with your friends stories.
  • Tap on a friends name and hold for a second.
  • Tap on More to see available options.
  • Tap on Remove Friend to delete them from your Snapchat.
  • You can also do this by opening your chat with the person you want to remove and tapping their profile picture at the top of the screen. Next, tap the three-dot icon also at the top and select Remove Friend.

If you want to block a friend instead of just removing them, choose Block instead of Remove in the last step of the described routines.

    Try Different Pin Formats

Mix it up! Pin a video encouraging Pinners to shop at your e-commerce store or try adding multiple photos to a Pin to create a carousel.

For example, Nike uses video to promote its products:

And carousels to show a variety of products in one Pin:

But even though 80% of Pinners discover a new brand or product on Pinterest, think beyond shopping and explicitly promoting your brand.

For example, Nespresso pins step-by-step content to engage Pinners with its brand:

    Control Who Can Contact You

The best way to prevent unpleasant situations is to control who can contact you in the first place. Heres how to allow only your friends to contact you:

  • Launch Snapchat and tap on your photo to open your Profile page.
  • Open Settings by tapping on the icon in the upper right corner.
  • Scroll down to find the Additional Services.
  • The second tab is named Contact me tap to open.
  • Select My Friends instead of Everyone. Note that My Friends is selected by default when you create a profile on Snapchat.
  • If you failed to change this setting on time, and youve been added by someone you dont like, you can ignore their request.

  • Tap on your photo to open your Profile page.
  • Tap on Add Friends.
  • Open the Added Me section to see your pending requests.
  • Tap on the x next to the users name.
  • Tap on Ignore to delete their request.
  • You will now stop receiving requests from this person.

    Use A Good Profile Picture

How to make your Pinterest account private?

Just imagine going on someones profile whos supposed to be an expert, and seeing their profile picture is a grainy selfie thats hard to make out?

    Make sure to:

    • Use a clear, bright photograph of yourself
    • Try to look happy in your photo so you look approachable- remember this is practically your only chance to introduce yourself to your target audience. They cant see what youre like in actual person, so make this picture count! This is also another chance to enhance your branding, so if you use a theme colour then perhaps try and include that somehow in your image.

I recommend using the same picture from your blog and/or other social media platforms.

This creates a continuation across your brand of you, and people can start to become familiar with you.

Of course, you can make it your logo if you wish.

I do recommend this if there is a creative team behind your blog and your logo is strong.

However, I find it easier to connect and take interest in a Pinterest profile when Im reminded that its an actual person working behind it.

Plus, lots of people have their name as their business name.

So people are going to want to put a name to a face!

Create A Private Board From Scratch

Navigate to boards. Click Create a board .

Once the popup opens for creating a board, you will see an option called Visibility and when you check that box your board will be private.

You might want to create a private board for various reason like if

    • you want to save enough pins to make your account look well-rounded, whole and really awesome to follow
    • you want to make your personal boards private and you dont want to share them with your professional or business followers

Write A Good About Your Profile Section

All the people who are doing well on Pinterest have a clear profile that tells you exactly what they do.

The best way to do this is to make good use of the about your profile section.

If you were to visit , you will know straight away what I write about on my blog.

I have used keywords so if you were to search for these words, my profile would be more likely to come up.

    Change Your Display Name

I noticed when I started to follow the people I was aspiring to be like in my blogging niche, that the names that appeared on their profiles where very similar.

They all had their name their blog/ business topic.

    • Who you are
    • What your business/blog name is
    • And then key things you write about

These are also keywords, so if people search for these things your profile is more likely to come up.

    Carefully Plan Your Boards

How to Keep Pinterest Account Private?

As , your brands boards can help reach new Pinners interested in specific topics or learning specific things.

For example, Oreos boards include Pins with inspiration for upcoming seasonal holidays like its Spooky Sweet Halloween board and Holidays with Oreo board as well as recipe ideas, like its Oreo Cupcakes and Oreo Cookie Balls board.

In other words, the brand skillfully mixes useful, engaging and inspiring content boards with boards that are more promotional:

And Aveeno has boards for their own products, like Aveeno Body and Sun Care boards:

But the brand also has other boards, like the Earth Day board that includes Pins indirectly showcasing the brand while showing an understanding of what their audience values and supports.

    Boards And Board Types

Think of Pinterest boards as digital mood boards. Use boards to save, collect and organize your Pins. Many use boards to group Pins according to a certain theme or topic. For example, you might create a board around the planning of a product launch event, for seasonal content, or for wedding inspiration.

    Group boards

Group boards are the same as regular boards, except more than one person can add content. This format is ideal for marketers looking to share ideas or plans with their team, as anyone can contribute.

    Secret boards

A secret board can only be seen by its creator and invited collaborators. When you create one, youll see a lock symbol beside the board name. These are useful for planning you dont want to be public secret boards wont appear in the home feed, in search, or anywhere publicly on Pinterest.

    Protected boards

Similar to secret boards, protected boards live at the bottom of your Pinterest profile and only you can see them. However, the Pins on these protected boards can be seen across Pinterest if a Pinner has a direct link.

Dont Get Clever With Your Board Names

Use your best keyword phrases! That way, interested people can find your boards via search engines .

Here you can see that my social media marketing tips board is 4th on the 2nd page of Google results.

The maximum allowed characters is 50, but they might not all show on your profile.

While its nice to have neat, tidy names that fit in the display area, its not required. Go with what best describes the board.

For example, Social Media Scheduling Tools & Tips doesnt all fit on the profile view of the board. But that tips keyword is still there for SEO purposes!

If someone should search Social Media Scheduling Tips this board would be more likely to surface due to that.

Dont concoct a name thats cute and unique. Use phrases Pinners are actually searching for!

From the top right bar, click the magnifying glass icon.

A search panel will pop up. Start typing! Take note of the phrases that appear.

Hiding A Pin In Your Home Feed

How to Stay Private on Pinterest

Your home page stream consists of the pins chosen for you and the people, topics, and boards you follow.

You can hide pins you dont want to see on your home page. If you accidentally hide a pin, you can show it again.

So how can we hide the pins on the home page?

    • Login to your account.
    • In your home feed, click the ellipsis icon in the lower right corner of the pin.
    • Choose why you hide the pin.

You can also complain if it is a community rule pin.

    Use Good Pin Descriptions

So I know asking you to think about the descriptions of the images you share is a big ask.

HOWEVER, if youre sharing images with descriptions like Omg wow 00898802 or something similar, its going to make your profile look less professional .

This is an extra chance to work on your branding.

You can set a really clear tone of voice for your brand if make the descriptions how you and/or your brand would talk/ write.

Should You Have Personal Boards On Your Business Account

Theres some controversy about this. Some people say yes. They even recommend going into your Pinterest analytics and making boards on other interests of your audience even if theyre not your interests.

Please, dont do that. Do you really want to keep pinning to a board of things youre not interested in?

Feel free to use Audience Insights to create more boards that are relevant to your business though particularly if you have your own content to save there. Even Pinterest now tells us to focus on saving your own content.

There is a slight chance youll attract some members of your target market this way but much more likely, if you attract anyone, theyll be people who arent.

As a Pinner whos had a somewhat-business-related Pin go viral , I can tell you it caused me a huge waste of time and money.

Even though that Pin was vaguely related to my business , I probably got fewer than 5 people on my business email list from that viral Pin.

I spent a ton of time making a content upgrade for that blog post, set up an email list for it, tried to figure out a way to monetize

I did get thousands of people to sign up to that list . So that cost me plenty.

I eventually closed that list because I was wasting too much time on it, and making no money.

Now imagine if Id made a board about knitting? Which was recommended to me.

If you make baby clothes, and you suddenly came out with a line of adult hair care products, thats diluting your brand.
