Facebook Could Spy On Whatsapp Chats
In a blog post, WhatsApp implied that because it uses end-to-end encryption, it is impossible for Facebook to read WhatsApp content:
“When you and the people you message are using the latest version of WhatsApp, your messages are encrypted by default, which means you’re the only people who can read them. Even as we coordinate more with Facebook in the months ahead, your encrypted messages stay private and no one else can read them. Not WhatsApp, not Facebook, nor anyone else.”
However, according to developer Gregorio Zanon, this is not strictly true. The fact WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption does not mean all messages are private. On an operating system like iOS 8 and above, apps can access files in a “shared container.”
Both the Facebook and WhatsApp apps use the same shared container on devices. And while chats are encrypted when they are sent, they are not necessarily encrypted on the originating device. This means the Facebook app could potentially copy information from the WhatsApp app.
To be clear, there is no evidence that Facebook has used shared containers to view private WhatsApp messages. But the potential is there for them to do so. Even with end-to-end encryption, your messages may not be private from Facebook’s all-seeing eye.
How To Recover Hacked Whatsapp Account
In order to get back your hacked WhatsApp account, you need to log-in again into WhatsApp with your phone number. You will receive a six-digit verification code via SMS that WhatsApp reads and logs you in automatically. Once you log-in, the hacker will be automatically logged out of your account.
In case the hacker activates the two-step verification after gaining access to your WhatsApp account, you will be asked to enter that code. In this case, you will have to wait for seven days to recover your account. Notably, while you wait for account recovery, the hacker can no longer access your account.
Regardless of whether you know this verification code, the other individual was logged out of your account once you entered the 6-digit SMS code, WhatsApp says.

Phone Lost Or Stolen How Do I Recover Whatsapp Account
If your phone gets missing, recovering your WhatsApp account takes completely different steps. In this case, you do not have access to your sim card and so cannot just log in.
- The first thing you should do is to inform everyone including WhatsApp. If people are aware that you no longer have control over your account, they will be prepared for any fraudulent chats.
- Now, you should send a mail to Whatsapp at support@whatsapp.com. You can state the details of the incident to the mail, but make sure you add Lost/Stolen: Please deactivate my account in the subject and text body and also provide the mobile number registered with the WhatsApp account.
- Please ensure that you are sending this mail from the email address registered in your two-factor authentication process. If you did not do the two-factor authentication before your phone got lost or was stolen, then you can use any of your email addresses.
Once the account has been successfully deactivated, the thieves will no longer be able to use it to chat with your contacts. Now you have 30 days to recover your account if you still want to be able to access all your saved chats and media backed up in the cloud. It you delay this beyond 30 days, you will lose access to all that data.

Another tell-tale sign that someone is in your account is when you have new people or friends. All you need to do to review your contacts on WhatsApp is open the app and tap on the chat icon in the lower right-hand corner.
At the top of the page, you will see the number of contacts . Underneath that, you should scroll down and make sure that you recognize everyone on the list.
One great thing about WhatsApp is that it will automatically detect contacts from your phone using the app. So, if someone signs in on their device, youll likely see people you dont recognize.
