Don't Miss

You Dont Ask Any Questions

How do I know if someone has read my Linkedin messages?

If you want a response, ask a question.

Too many PhDs think that writing a message to someone entitles them to a response.

People should help you just because you wrote a message asking for help?

How arrogant are you?

No one owes you a response.

You have to earn a response.

You have to ask for a response.

How To Know If Someone Has Read Your Message On Linkedin

The most suitable platform for professional networking is LinkedIn. Building your influence and searching for ideal clients is very easy as you can connect with and many other people who are in your professional sphere. Addition of new features has made it at par with other social media platforms. Read receipts were added in 2017. We will look at what they are and how you can use them in this article.

What are LinkedIn Read Receipts?

After you send a message on LinkedIn, you are continuously thinking if your receiver opened it and saw what you wrote. Itâs also good to know if your message was read by your targeted audience when you want to connect with people.

Read receipts are signs that show whether or not the other person or the members in a conversation have opened your message. This icon lies at the bottom end of your message thread.

when you are on a desktop, clicking on its icon will show you that the person has read it and the time at which they read it. You can also see when the other person is writing a message in response with a feature called typing indicator.

When you are trying to develop new connections these features are of great help. They let you measure how your conversation is going and if you should follow up your earlier messages.

Thank you for getting in touch with me. I hope our paths cross again down the line.

Best of luck

Tip #: Inmail Is Not Email Its New Lets Innovate With It

Linkedin read receipts

When cold emailing first got traction, the big thing was companies emailing phone script like text over email. It was really bad, and it ultimately lead to cold emailing becoming less and less effective over time.

One thing that we have an opportunity to do as sales reps is to treat InMail almost like a new platform. Can it be used similar to a chat conversation? Can we send videos, links, shorter messages almost like a proactive instant message? Im going to try this next as an experiment. We know chat works on the inbound side, so why not experiment with treating InMail like this.

The door is wide open for it. Studies show when you do something that is unexpected and different, that it makes people stop. Can you make your prospects stop what they are doing and respond?

Heres a perfect example. Jeremy Leveille on our team sent an InMail to prospect, and in the InMail, he included a video:

The prospect loved his message so much, he posted about it on LinkedIn after:

Lets be pioneers, and change the way people think about sales reps prospecting. Lets make them enjoy it. Lets make them feel good to be prospected, and make InMail an enjoyable place to look for our prospects.

How To Write Linkedin Messages That Actually Get Read

Imagine you were at a networking event, and you spot someone you dont know but would love to. Maybe she has your dream job, or maybe he runs a great business that youd like to model yours after.

Would you ever walk up to this person and blurt out a question or request for his or her time, sans context, gratitude, and even introductions?

Probably notbut it happens all the time on LinkedIn.

The is that it allows you to connect one-on-one with nearly anyone in the world. But I cant tell you how many people I see squandering this opportunity by sending brief or automated messages that dont give people any meaningful reason to connectà la Can you help me? or Id like to connect with you on LinkedIn. Its lazy, its unprofessional, and its highly unlikely to get a response.

Spend a few more minutes crafting a personalized note, and youre much more likely to make the connections youre looking for. Try these four steps to writing a LinkedIn message that will get opened.

You Dont Need To Sell Yourself:

Do you know what the hardest bargain is? When you try too hard. Professionals dont want to hear your sales pitch from another corner of the world, mainly because they listen to it every day. As a result, it is highly unlikely that they would respond to such attempts. Save your sales talks to board or investor meetings and keep your conversation on LinkedIn friendly, unofficial, and relevant.

Top 10 Reasons Your Linkedin Messages Are Being Ignored

I set a goal to connect with two new people a day on LinkedIn.

This was my entire job search strategy

Get on LinkedIn.

Find someone who worked for Baxter, Pfizer, Amgen or similar.

Repeat once.

Go back to writing my thesis.

The end.

It was a bad strategy.

No one accepted my connection requests.

Literally no one.

I remember refreshing my screen at the end of every day hoping to see some new connections.

I thought that someone was wrong with my account.

I even sent an email to LinkedIns customer service department.

They told me my account was fine.

How embarrassing.

Im sure the person who wrote the email back to me was like

Youre an overeducated loser with no common sense who is never going to get a PhD job.

Fair assessment.

A few months later

I decided to crank it up a notch.

I decided to start writing personal messages to people instead of just clicking the connect button and sending off the default message.

Id like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn.

No one answers those messages.

But surely theyd answer my personal message if I took the time to fully explain who I am, what kind of job I wanted, and how they could help me.

I still got not responses.

Okay, well

One person replied back to me asking how we met.

We didnt meet.

I didnt know what to say so I explained to him that I was a PhD student looking for a job in industry. I told him about all the skills I had and then asked him for any advice he might have.

Three paragraphs.

Linkedin Message #: The Follow

Jack shared with me that 25% of his prospects will respond after receiving his follow-up GIFs.

This is a cheeky approach. Instead of following up with an all-too-common Hey, Im checking in, use humor to create an element of surprise!

Pro Tips: GIFs can be effective alternatives to overused words and phrases that people are tired of hearing. If you find your prospects are becoming less receptive to your messages, use GIFs to recapture their attention.

Theyre great ways to deliver an emotional impact and push conversions.

You may also want to choose the alternative Delivery Receipts feature that will notify you when a message is delivered however, it will not tell you if the person has read the text.

Android’s built-in text messenger is solid. It can also filter out spam. But there are some features and capabilities you can only get with third-party texting apps. .

How To Message Someone You’re Not Connected To On Linkedin

Step 1: Go to your connection’s LinkedIn Profile.

Step 2: See if their first and last names are displayed.

Step 3: If both names are displayed, you should see the blue “Connect” button enabling you to send them an invitation. Once connected, you can compose a message by following the steps in section one of this post.

If only the first letter of their last name is displayed, you will not be able to click “Connect” but may still be able to contact them through InMail.

How To Know If Your Message Has Been Read On Messenger

The instant you read a text or an email, the sender knows it. Thats life with read receipts turned on: Youre forced to respond immediately or be seen as ignoring the chat.

I am terrible at texting. I dont mean to be. But too often Ill get a text, start to respond, then get distracted by work or my dogand suddenly its four days later and I forgot all about it. Sorry, just seeing this is the lie I tell most often.

Of course, my apps frequently betray me. When Im in Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and most other popular messaging apps, a small update goes out letting the sender know as soon as I open a message. These are read receipts. I pronounce them reed receipts, not red receipts, though this is a matter of some debate. However you say them, theyre a problem.

Requesting A Recommendation From Someone You Dont Know

    Yes, this really does happen!

If you dont know the person, DONT ASK for a LinkedIn recommendation, a skill endorsement or, quite honestly, anything at all. Doing this will significantly hurt your credibility with the person you ask. Even if they do write you a recommendation, it will not have the same impact as one created by someone who knows you and your work well.

    Request A Return Receipt

Read receipts are much more common that most people realize. Most major email platforms will give you the option to request return/read receipts with email that you send. Some will also let you specify these receipts for every email you’re composing.

Keep in mind, these requests only do half the job the recipient can still decline, and youll never receive the receipt youre hoping for. Some email platforms, like Gmail and Apple Mail, for example, do not officially support the sending of read receipt requests.

As an alternative, you can use “invisible” email tracking and read receipts, but here you’ll have to rely on third-party tracking software.

For the other major email platforms, here’s how you set them up:

Before We Get Started Lets Remember A Few Basic Things About Using Inmail:

Does LinkedIn Have Read Receipts? Find Out.

    1. If you work on a sales team, and have a LinkedIn Sales Navigator account, you can send messages to people you arent connected with.

    2. These messages get labeled as InMail. InMails are clearly marked as being inMail when prospects receive them. They also go into a special inbox once theyve been read.

    3. LinkedIn is smart enough to push back a few auto responses for a prospect, making replying easy.

    4. By default, email alerts are on for InMail when your prospects have an account, so they will see them in their email inbox as well. However, remember many LinkedIn Members who dont work in sales have their personal emails associate with their LinkedIn .

    5. InMail acts independent of connection request. So if you send a connection request, that comes in as a separate message.

    6. Lastly, remember prospects expect InMail to be a sales email. Just keep this in mind.

So, with these basic things brought up, lets get into the weeds on how your can use InMail to book more sales meetings!
