Has A Decent Number Of Followers
The number of followers on a group board doesnt really matter that much. A group board can have less than 10 followers but contains lots of high performing pins due to the validity and relevance of the content.
On the other hand, a group board with many; followers may have low virality score due to poor quality pins. It doesnt really matter! A decent number of active followers who regularly pin high-quality, relevant content is a good choice.
Pinning From Your Blog

- Every blog post you publish should include a pin ready cover image. That is also embedded in the blog post for visitors to pin.
- Pin two-three different cover images for every blog post and pin some images without graphics too. Use Social Pug to input several hidden pins that only appear when someone pins from your site
- Write keyword-rich descriptions Think of this in the same way that you do for SEO as Pinterest is like a search engine. Use hashtags.
- Have multiple boards for just your blog posts. I have a blog post board to save pins with cover images including the blog post title and separate boards just for photos.
- Pin your pin to your blog posts board first
- Pin your pin to all your own relevant boards next Ideally, you should pin natively from your website, and not simply re-pin the first pin you pinned to the blog post board
- Pin your pin to group boards you are a member of
- Schedule your pin to be pinned in the coming weeks and months using Tailwind

Utilize The Search Bar
2 billion searches are made every month on Pinterest. And 87% of pinners bought something because of Pinterest.
Now, dont you want a piece of that pie?
The best way to find relevant keywords that youll use in your board titles, board descriptions, pin descriptions, and on your profile ; is to use the search bar.
Lets say your blog is about making money at home. To find relevant keywords you could type make money into the search bar to start:
Youll be given loads of suggestions. I suggest getting as specific as possible by taking a general keyword and turning it into a long-tail keyword.
For example, the general keyword you began with: make money.
See the suggestions below? You can create excellent long-tail keywords, such as make money at home, or make money blogging.
What Makes A Group Board A Quality Board
Check out the rules of the board. If the board has rules, theyll be written directly under the board name.
Some rules include sharing someone elses pin for each pin you post to the board. I like to see this rule because it means other pinners will be less likely to just dump pins there and run.
Having to repin another pinners content will increase that boards engagement. This rule tends to result in an active, good quality board.
; Have a look at the pins themselves. Are they attractive, well-designed pins or do they look spammy? Are people staying on topic with the group rules?
If the board is full of off-topic, click-bait, spammy pins, this is a good indication that the creator isnt monitoring the board.
It likely also means its not getting a lot of engagement from quality accounts.
Avoid boards with multiple topics. You want Pinterest to have a very clear idea of what your pin is about so it gets found in specific searches.
Remember that Pinterest is a visual search engine. If you put your parenting advice pin on a board that also allows beauty tips, youre just going to confuse Pinterest as to what your pin is actually about.
Choose group boards with well-keyworded titles and descriptions so its again, very clear what the board is about.;
Okay! Now that thats out of the way, here are step by step instructions.

Are Group Boards More Important Than My Boards
Nope! ;Your boards matter more than group boards do. ;In the past, that was the opposite. ;However, with the implementation of the smart feed, they dont help as much as they did previously.
That is not saying they do not matter. They absolutely do. ;But, you should focus on pinning to your boards first and then focus on the group boards secondly.

Killer Strategies For Finding The Perfect Group Boards
1. Search for influencers in your niche to find out what group boards they’ve joined
Lets use an example from one of our own Brilliant Business Moms who sells a physical product that reaches a niche market. EllyandGrace sells fun, hip, Christian-themed shirts to women.
She has boards not only for clothing but also for the Christian life. She could find other pinners in her niche with bigger audiences and check out the group boards they belong to.
One of our own Brilliant Pinning students, ;Brittany of Equipping Godly Women, has done an amazing job on her . When we hop on over to Brittanys profile, there are tons of fabulous group boards right in EllyandGraces nicheall she has to do is ask the owners if she can contribute!
*Tip: You can spot a group board by the circle with three profiles. The profile on the left is theowner.;
Once youre logged into Pinterest, click Analytics in the upper left, then People You Reach, then Interests.;Toggle to Your Followers not All Audiences. Then scroll down to see Brands:;Businesses Your Followers Engage.
Some of your results may be big companies, but most should be other people in your corner of the market who pin the same types of content you do.
Ellen on our team sells simple, printable crafts that are great for moms and teachers. It’s easy to see that represented in the businesses her followers engage.
3. Create some yourself
Update On My Own Group Board
I couldnt justify keeping this board open to collaborators. The repin rate was .64, which is less than 2 for every 3 Pins on the board.
I finally closed the group board in late March 2018. I let the last handful of Pinners know a week in advance in case they had any successful Pins they wanted to move to another board.
Then I deleted them and all their content.
What happened next?
My repin rate on the board instantly doubled.
My virality and engagement scores hit a 30-day high.
So what do I recommend for hosting your own group board?
Open a group board only to people you know, who want to support each others success.
As I mentioned above, group boards are also great for collaborating with clients, co-workers, and friends.
But for massive blog promotion? Not so much.

I Now Pin Daily To My New Group Boards
Now that I was actually a part of different group boards, whereas two weeks ago I wasnt in any, I now am able to share my pins daily onto all 15 of the group boards Im involved in.
Since there are a lot of followers on these group boards + the collaborators, Im consistently getting group board invites because people like my pins and also because they notice Im already involved in so many group boards.
Follow Your Competitors Followers
If youre sitting around waiting for followers to flock to you, youll be waiting a long time.
A powerful tactic to generate followers is strategically following your competitors followers.
Since you both have the same target audiences, chances are, if they followed your competitor theyll follow you, too.
A quick way to find competitors:
Anyone who has blog, blogging, or a related term in their profile will show up under People:
Begin looking through your competitors profiles, one by one. From there you can start following their followers, and youll begin to see many of them will happily follow you back. Easy-peasy!

What To Include In Your Email
Be sure to include the following:
- Your blog URL
- Your email address
- A link to the group board you would like to join
Unfortunately, failure to include;any of the above could result in your email being deleted without further thought. Double check and make sure your links are working!!!!
Bloggers will want to check out your blog. They want to see what type of blog posts and photos you will be pinning to their board.
Please, please, please read the directions in the group board description!;If you cant follow directions on how to request an invite then the board owner cant trust you follow their rules on pinning to their board.
Read the board description before sending your email! Make sure you included everything the owner wants!
Choosing The Right Group Boards
Like mentioned above group boards can be an asset but you need to make sure you are on the right ones. First, make sure they fit your niche. It doesnt make sense for a food blogger to be on a DIY board that only showcases DIY projects. A food blogger will have little to no content that would apply to that board.
Second, look for boards that have search friendly board titles. For example, its best to be on a board that is titled, Social Media Marketing Tips than;simply titled, Social. Go for the boards that are smart with their names.
Third, activity. Does the board look active? Are the pins on the board good content or do they look more like spam? Aim to be on boards that deliver value as opposed to just looking at the follower number. Follower numbers dont translate to a good board. If the board has a ton of contributors and no one is pinning good content, steer clear.

Are Pinterst Group Boards Dead
Ive got two answers for you. One is simple and the other a bit more complicated.
The death of Pinterest group boards officially came in 2019, when Pinterest realized how content creators were using group boards to get repins and clicks. This is NOT what Pinterest intended. They wanted group boards to be for collaboration. They say so, right on their website.
Group boards are a great way to share ideas and plans, NOT group boards are a great way to get more saves and clicks to your website. So, they tweaked the algorithm and down went all that sweet group boards juice many of us were getting. *tears*
But, hold up, before you go and leave all your group boards, may I offer you a more complete and complex answer? Maybe!
