Dont Pin Your Own Stuff All The Time
While youre curating, you might be tempted to only pin images from your own website and blog. You might want to create boards that only feature your personal or affiliates products or your blog posts
Resist this urge. Resist it with all your might.

Im not a fan of arbitrary rules like this, but I think youll know when youre pinning your own stuff too much. Youll feel like a schmuck. And it wont feel good.
So follow your gut. And dont be a schmuck. Stick to posting good content from other places, and when it feels right, pin one of your own posts, too. This will get you much more traction than constantly promoting yourself.

It can be product placement things, like 10 ways to repurpose Coca-Cola cans or 5 epic Airbnb vacations. I dont know if either of those brands do joint promotions with pinners this is just an example.

So, its important to review the reasons why some pins are more popular than others:
- Are their enough keywords being used?
- Is the pin attractive to the viewers in your niche?
- Is the description catchy enough?
This is where you would need to do some research on similar topics to your content and pins, to see how other pins are getting to the top of the search page.
How Many Pins Generated Clicks To Your Website
Do you only see other peoples pins? If so, look into why those pins are doing well so you can apply it to your own pinning methods. Also, look to see how many pins were saved or shared. All of these factors help to evaluate your Return on Investment ROI. Look for click-through rate, save rate, and engagement rate. So when is the best time to pin?
According to Buffer, you should pin around the afternoons and evenings. On weekdays, the Buffer team clusters posts between 2-4 p.m. and 9-11 p.m. Eastern.
Tip: You can also research at what time your target market is most active, and pin then.
Join As Many Group Boards In Your Niche As You Can
Large All Bloggers Welcome! groups can get you impressions, but if you want a winning Pinterest strategy, you need to work within your niche.
But my niche is so small! Trust me, they are out there. It can take a lot of work, but it is possible. Look at other bloggers in your niche and see what boards they are in.
Jump On The Hashtag Bandwagon
Pinterest recently changed its tune on hashtags, and hashtags are now popping up on feeds everywhere. Theyre a way to see what pins are the newest and most relevant now that we cant see re-pin counts.
If you want to be found by followers who fall into your target audience, nows the time to dive onto the hashtag bandwagon.
You can use relevant hashtags in your pin descriptions like these pinners have:

Use Relevant Keywords In Your Board Names
The best way to increase the odds of your pins showing up in the Picked for You and on the interest feeds on Pinterest is to ensure that your board has a relevant title. If youre trying to reach people who want to travel, then naming your board Travel or Travel Tips will inform Pinterest of the topic. If you try to get clever and name your board Great Adventures of Willy Wonka your chances of showing up are less.

Add Your Content Title And Subtitle To Your Video Pin
You are creating your video pin to link back and generate traffic for your blog or website and that means you need to add your content title to the pin to generate interest:
In the track labeled Text 1 click on the first element and edit the text:

Some of your pins might be seeing less traffic if they were something very on trend at some point, but that trend is fading away. Or if it was a seasonal pin, like a Christmas themed one, and that season is over.
This does not mean those pins are useless now, because seasons come back and that pin will likely pick up again when that season approaches.

Pinterest is an extremely visual platform, this is why every single one of your blog posts should contain a pin-friendly image. Your images should also be vertical, as those get more exposure in the feed. I use Social Pug to add keywords to my images- its my favorite sharing plugin . You can select which particular image will be shared to Pinterest whenever someone decides to share it. I always set my Pinterest-friendly images as default images to be shared. I also add any keywords relevant to the post, so that theyre more likely to be found on Pinterest. This is very useful since Pinterest doesnt display content in chronological order. Pinterest works just like a search engine, which is why your image descriptions should contain those keywords that are relevant to your post. Thats how your posts get found.

Group boards are all the rage and can be marketing power-houses if used correctly. And theyre known for increasing website traffic like nobodys business.

- Search a relevant hashtag, and look at the tags and keywords being used by Pinners using that hashtag.
- Look at the trending hashtags in your category .

You can apply this logic to your profile too. For instance, consider adding a description to your name, like Hootsuite . Your profile is more apt to show up in keyword searches that way. This is especially useful if youre an entrepreneur and you want to emphasize your areas of expertise.

Capitalize On Vertical Imagery
Vertical pins perform better simply because they look taller and grab more attention. Its highly recommended that you shoot for 2:3 aspect ratio, with 600 pixels as the minimum recommended width.
