Here’s why: If you pin the post directly from the site’s homepage, your pin won’t link back to the individual post itself just the homepage, which is updated with new stories all the time.

A post’s permalink is easy to capture just click the post’s headline on the blog’s homepage. Then pin. Trust us: It will save you a ton of furious Googling months later, when the post is buried under a ton of new content.

How To Remove Pins

Lets say you want to tune your Pinterest home feed and remove inappropriate content or unwanted Pins, then youre going to have to edit account settings. Like most important account tweaks, these settings are under the edit profile or edit settings menu item that you access from your Pinterest profile icon. See this helpful video to show you how to get to your profile setting area on your account. This is the same area weve been making lots of changes to in past tutorials. Pinterest home feed settings are on the edit settings menu, below your account privacy settings. Content can be edited using either desktop Pinterest or from the mobile app. To stop seeing unwanted Pins, you must turn off irrelevant boards, Pins, or topics that are similar to the content you no longer wish to see. Note that you are not deleting any Pins or boards. Youre just silencing them. Topics, however, must be unfollowed. .

How To Delete Pins From A Group Board

If you own , you can delete anyones Pins one by one using the method directly above.

But what if youve got someone posting spam Pins?

Or you just want to turn that board into your own personal niched board, and get rid of all other content?

There is a solution. Remove the Pinner, and block him /her.

Blocking the Pinner at the time of removing them as a collaborator to the board will remove all their Pins.

Feel free to let collaborators know ahead of time that youre closing the board in case they want to move their Pins to one of their own boards.

You can also go back to each Pinners profile and unblock them afterwards. But blocking is the only way to remove other peoples Pins from your group board in bulk.

Your should help tell the story of your article, recipe, or craft that youre sharing. The image is a breadcrumb leading to the main meal, and people dont want a surprise when they get there.

Adding a text overlay to your image can help add context. Make sure that your font is easy to read and that theres enough contrast for the text to be read easily. When adding text, think about how it will educate and inspire people this isnt the place for a pushy call to action.

Hide Your Boards And Pins From Google Search Results

Did you know that your Pinterest pins and boards can show up in Google search results? If you’d rather keep your indoor garden inspiration to yourself, go to your profile > tap the gear icon> Account settings> and switch Search privacy from “no” to yes”.

Because it can take several weeks for search engines to remove your pins from search results, you can go to this page to speed up the process.

Are You Suddenly Following Boards That You Dont Remember Following

With all due respect to a pinner who created a board featuring 47,863 items carefully curated under the category Everything, its boards like these that start to make Pinterest a less valuable place for me to find the things I am looking for.

Also, this is not about me being snobby you may love hand-crocheted dog slippers that look like cats while I dont, and thats really fine.

Group Boards Will Be Losing Distribution Power

Now, 1000-4000 contributors and no pinning limits cant end up in a good way. Spam eventually takes over these boards and the board is losing the focus on one topic.

As a consequence, even legit pinners on those boards get low engagement scores for their pins and a confusing keyword context based on all the spam saved to the board previously.

What should you do now?

  • If you are still relatively new and dont have many big group boards on your profile, you have two options. First, forget about group boards and work on your own boards. Second, if you still want to try to reach additional audiences with group boards, you might want to create or join only small group boards, very specifically targeted to a keyword or topic.
  • If you already joined many large group boards, especially generic boards which allow people from all niches to pin, its time to evaluate how efficient these boards are for your account. Learn how I do it from this post.

Pinterest images are essential, but text counts too. Optimize your pins for search by including industry or niche-specific keywords.

You Can Make Those Pin It Buttons That Pop Up All The Time Disappear

If you’re using Chrome, the Pin It button you can add to the browser also causes little buttons that scream “pin me! pin me!” to appear when your mouse hovers over a photo. Sure, they’re handy, but can also be distracting as you scroll down a page. Get rid of them by right-clicking the Pin It button, selecting Options, and then checking “Hide hovering Pin it buttons,” to say bye-bye to these flittering little guys.

There is one caveat: Some savvy websites and blogs might have installed their own “pin this!” buttons, which you won’t be able to banish.

How To Identify And Delete Underperforming Pins

Whether I can see repin counts in Pinterest or not, I like to use Tailwind to quickly find and delete poor Pins.

Heres my process. See how this works for you!

Caution: Note the board pinned to, and the domain. You might not want to delete Pins from your secret boards, or from your own website.

  • In your Tailwind Plus dashboard, go to Optimize Content > Pin Inspector.
  • Go to Filter by Date Pinned and select the desired time period .
  • Now click the Repins header so they sort by worst to best.
  • Check which board and domain youre deleting from!
  • on the first Pin image. This takes you to the Pin on Pinterest*.
  • On Pinterest, you can click on the Edit button and then delete the Pin.
  • The page will go blank. Close it, go back to Tailwind, and repeat.
  • Or you can open several Pins at once whatever works for you.
  • Note that the left column shows which board this Pin resides on. Take note of the boards that appear frequently and consider if youre wasting time pinning to these boards.

Also observe which pins keep coming up with low repins, and see if you can determine some commonalities. Domain, topic, look? I saw an awful lot of mostly-white Pins with 0 repins again and again. Ill be keeping an eye on that trend!

*If you get a whoops, we cant find that page, youve probably already deleted the Pin.

Tailwind still shows Pins that have already been deleted, so make note of which dates youve cleaned, and dont re-search those dates.

    People: People Who Need People

Maybe what all these changes come down to is a quote from an article about Pinterest I read recently which had a quote from Silbermann like, people dont follow people, they follow interests.

I definitely havent done the market research theyve done, but in my gut, that feels like a faulty premise.

People follow the interests they care about from the people they care about.

I can assure you that good curation is really, really hard work. A robot cant do it, and an algorithm cant do it.

We put a lot of effort into pinning things from our site and the rest of the web that we think youll love. We dont farm it out to other peopleKristen and I do it ourselves. Sometimes we wake up early to do it. Sometimes we got to sleep late doing it.

I know that the pinners weve mentioned here are the same way. They spend their time putting together the best of the best.

In other words, I dont want to see every single printable on Pinterest, I want to see what is sharing. I dont just want to see kids crafts I want to see Alpha Moms recommendations for kids crafts! And I want to know what Gabby Blair suggests is great design, because its going to be more aligned with my own sensibility, than what a group board with 8,462 pinners thinks is great design.

So if you want to see more of the stuff from the people you love, you need to bookmark them and visit their boards directly dont count on them showing up in your feed when you want them to.

    Unfollow Only Specific Boards

Say youre following a blogger or brand who typically pins images that youre interested in, but also pins about a subject that you arent interested in. You can still follow that blogger or brand, but simply Unfollow any of their boards that you dont care about.

For example, maybe a person/blogger pins on boards about home decor that you like, but also has boards that pertain to a subject you arent interested in. Maybe you like her home decor boards, but really have no interest in her healthy eating boards.

To unfollow the boards that you dont want to see pins from, do a search for the name of the person, brand or blog to get to their profile page . Click to Unfollow any boards that you arent interested in.

Difference Between Archiving Pins/boards And Deleting Them

    How to STOP Pinterest Notifications

Archiving pins will make them invisible to your audience and you will not get notifications or recommendations for saved pins and boards. Plus point, if you change your mind later, you can always unarchive them and they will be back on your profile like before.

On the other hand, deleting pins or boards would literally mean getting rid of them for good. Once you delete a piece of content, you will never be able to retrieve it. So, make a choice wisely and only if you are very sure of doing it especially when you are using

Are You Seeing Fewer Pins From The Pinners You Follow

I started noticing that a pinner I like, say Liz Stanley, would pin maybe 10 pins in a row but only 2 would appear in my feed at all. To see everything shes putting up on pinterest, I need to remember to go to her page directly.

Its frustrating because I followed her for a reason. Shes an amazing curator. Just look!

Instead, what Im seeing in my feed are lots of pins from the boards I dont tend to frequent as much. Maybe thats some way to get me around the site more? Or push different kinds of content in my feed? It can benefit smaller pinners, which I like, but I still want to see the things I actually signed up to see.

There doesnt seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason to the recos either. Like, yes, I am always looking for really cute baby clothes to share here. And I know cute is subjective, and that one persons very adorable leopard print baby onesie, is another persons did it come with a gift receipt?

Now sometimes I do get a picked for you thats fantastic and I actually ended up following the board. Like this one here, so, nice job Pinterest. However if you dont want to see a certain pin thats recommended for youand hopefully inform the algorithm of your preferences in the processyou can delete it, only they dont make it that easy.

At first glance it looks like theres no way to do it. But aha! Mouse over the pin, and a little X will appear at bottom right. Thats your ticket out.

Secret Boards Are A Great Way To Be Sneaky And Stay Organized

If you use secret boards just to stash stuff you’d be embarrassed for others to see , that’s great but with a little creativity, you could be even more strategic.

Why not have a secret board for everyone in your family? Then, you can save gift ideas or other surprises as you come across them and never feel stumped on a birthday again. Or use secret boards to plan surprise parties, collect wedding inspiration, or create a photo journal you only want to share with select people.

You Actually Don’t Need A Button At All To Pin Something

These days, every website is filled with buttons and prompts demanding we share, pin, and like, but don’t forget that every time you pin something, you’re essentially just bookmarking the page’s URL. When you want to save something that doesn’t have an immediate “pin me!” prompt, just remember good ol’ copy-and-paste.

Discovering More Of What You Love

I admit I can get annoyed when people complain about changes to social media networkseven though I do it too. The truth is, its not your site. Its someone elses business, and thats the risk you take when you put your content on a site you dont own. Eventually advertisers are going to come which helps support the site so you can keep using it for free.

I also dont know how it makes sense to keep my favorite content out of my feed.

In a Forbes article, Pinterests own head of operations, Don Faul, said Pinterest is a place people come to discover things they love. Ive also heard Ben talk about how receptive he is to feedback.

    Update, March 4:

Update, December 12: Is Pinterest listening? Maybe. They convened a group of super pinners to discuss the issues but from the live Periscope feeds we watched, their solutions kept coming back to, have you tried to pay to promote your pins? which we know is not helpful for most of you.

According to all of your fantastic, helpful, specific comments below, the picked for you pins have only increased the relevance to your interests has gone done, not up pinners are seeing fewer posts of those they follow in their feeds. Our own experience has proven that very few of our own pins are getting seen by anyone at all, even with 10,000+ followers. Which makes us inclined to start putting energy elsewhere as well.
