You Are Not Pinning Very Much At All
If you have pinned only a couple of pins in the past few weeks, then that is probably the reason why your stats are decreasing. Less content means less of a chance of people seeing your work.
Dont worry though, not all is lost. There is a simple and obvious solution to this: pin more often!
Create more pins for your blog posts, even for your old blog posts or freebies. Pin your pin images to multiple boards and be more present on the platform.
If youre struggling to be active with your pinning strategy, I highly recommend using something like Tailwind to help you out. Thats what I use to help me stay consistent.

Create Unique And Authentic Content
Above all else you should be making sure you are creating! Create unique and authentic content that resonates with your audience .
The Pin i mentioned above went viral because it was clear, simple and had a message everyone could understand. It had great info. Was easily digestible. It was on brand for my followers. It was of value.
Pinterest is prioritising unique or new content, so make sure what your putting out there in terms of Pins is fresh! and youll be a step up.
Ideally, when you create a post on your blog youll be aiming for 2-6 initial Pins that are all slightly different!
Tip: Never Pin the same URL in the space of 24 hours. Ideally, I leave 7 days in between pinning the same URL, even if the Pin is different.

Create A Custom Thumbnail
Creating a custom thumbnail can easily be done with free online tools such as Canva or PicMonkey. Custom thumbnails for YouTube are 1280x 720px. For Vimeo, they need to be the exact size of the video you upload, usually 640×480 or 1280×720.
In Canva, simply click the use custom dimensions option located above their premade templates. Enter the dimensions needed for your custom thumbnail.
One great thing about Canva is that it will save your designs. The next time you use Canva to make another video thumbnail, simply copy the one you made before by clicking on the lines beneath the image and change it up for new video.
In PicMonkey, hover your mouse over the design from the menu at the top of the homepage. Then select custom and enter the size you need for your videos thumbnail.
Use Bold Colours And Fonts That Stand Out
The fonts on your pin can make or break it. If its a small thin font, no one can read it therefore they wont be enticed to have a closer look or click on it.
Or if the entire pin contains an intricate handwritten font again that will be hard to read.
Couple that with the fact that, and a pin like that wont have much of a chance of going viral.
Instead, try to use bold colours and easy-to-read fonts that will stand out even on a small mobile device.

Add Your Content Title And Subtitle To Your Video Pin
You are creating your video pin to link back and generate traffic for your blog or website and that means you need to add your content title to the pin to generate interest:
In the track labeled Text 1 click on the first element and edit the text:
Here you can edit your first text element add the title of your blog post. You can reformat the text if you want.
You can edit the second and third text element the same way. If I have a subtitle or if the title is too long for one element, then I add the rest to the second element. I use the last element for a call to action like Click to Read.
Make It Easy For Others To Pin Your Content
Your customers or supporters who visit your website and also use Pinterest might want to use Pinterest to bookmark your products, services, blog posts, or other content from your website. Make it easy for them to do so by ensuring that your website and/or store are set up to be used as .
Rich Pins can be used for products, recipes, or articles. Product Rich Pins will include information on pricing, availability, and product information. Recipe Rich Pins include a title, serving size, cook time, ratings, diet preference, and list of ingredients directly within your pin. Article Rich Pins automatically add the headline or title, description, and author.
In the example above, you can see that this Rich Pin example includes the star ratings for the receipt, the ingredients needed, and cook time all within the pin itself. While were here, Id be remiss if I didnt recommend you make this recipe. So good and one of my personal favorites!
Rich Pins are especially helpful for when someone else pins a page from your website. It allows you to have some control over what is being shared and ensures that pins will be up-to-date no matter when, or who, shares them.

Use The Follow Button
Make following your company easy with the Follow button. Install the button on your website, in newsletters, in email signatures, or really anywhere online that you think you might attract followers.
In other situations, you can also use the to promote your brands profile. Make sure to also link to Pinterest in the bios of your other social accounts.
Capitalize On Vertical Imagery
Vertical pins perform better simply because they look taller and grab more attention. Its highly recommended that you shoot for 2:3 aspect ratio, with 600 pixels as the minimum recommended width.
While it automatically scales all uploaded images to match the width, you have the freedom to pick the height of your images.

Sort Out Your Strategy Then Use A Scheduler
So, I definitely started with Pinterest by manual pinning. It works well enough. But is really time consuming when you start to ramp things up as a business. I started a free trial with Tailwind and was instantly delighted.
I now only Pin the same Pin 2 or 3 times MAX to different relevant boards.
So, I dont need Tailwind right now. I can easily schedule my reduced pins in Pinterest itself or on Canvas new Content Planner and Scheduler direct from Canva. This new tool from Canva really is a game changer!
But , I do still love Tailwind and wont be closing my account completely. I want to retain my Tailwind Communities posts and also my analytics. Plus, I want to be ready to dive back in when things change again on Pinterest.
If you want to trial Tailwind, you get an initial free trial period, and then its paid. It isnt madly expensive, but unless you have your Pinterest strategy sorted first, you might not want to jump in. Its most valuable to make sure you have all your other ducks in a row first, then dive into Tailwind once youre sure you need it.
If youve used tools like Buffer before, youll find Tailwind familiar.
Im was on the $15 a month Plus plan.
If you are going to try Tailwind, the Communities are the biggest benefit. I recommend joining a few Tailwind Communities to help get your Pins reshared and ultimately repinned on Pinterest.
Two of my favourite Tailwind Communities are:
It Takes Time For New Pins To Rank
It was the perfect traffic loophole.
Google SEO was harder to master and took a lot longer to see results.
To gain traffic from social media, you would either have to pay for ads or put in a lot of effort to increase your following.
However, things have changed.
Nowadays, there is a lot of ads at the top of search results, pushing out other great content.
Recent changes can be discouraging for some creators, but you need to .
It takes a longer time to get your pins to rank.
But it is still effective at generating traffic to your blog if youre patient with it.
Just work on all the other things we have listed above, and dont be afraid to test new strategies.
The possibility of free traffic is definitely worth the effort.

Create Collages Of Products
A better way to monetise your Pinterest, in my opinion, is to create a collage of products, such as must-haves for kids, gift guides, list of essentials in your niche etc. And you link that collage pin to a blog post you wrote on your website.
The blog post will be the one containing all the affiliate links to each product in that collage.
Do Manual Posting And At The Same Time Use A Reliable Scheduling App
Should you post manually or use a scheduler? I do both! Sometimes, I pin manually, and I also use Tailwind. Most users attribute their success to pinning around 10 to 15 times a day. I do 30 times a day.
Do you think thatll work for you?! Try it! Tailwind is Pinterests official partnera tool that can supercharge your strategy in just a few weeks.
If you use this Tailwind link you will get a free trial and $15 towards your account when you sign up.

Take Advantage Of Red Letter Days
So if its Christmastime, Thanksgiving, or Halloween? Its the perfect time for you to pin content related to the holiday.
Heres an example.
If its almost Christmas and youre wondering how to wrap your presents, youd be the first to save this pin and follow the board.
Tip: Its a good idea to pin holiday-themed content a little earlier than the holiday itself. For example, pinning Christmas ideas in November is a good practice.
Pin Quality Vs Pinner Quality
You can use tools like Canva or Photoshop to make attractive looking pins.
Whichever tool you use, you can follow these guidelines to improve the quality of the pins you create:
- Use high-resolution images: You can find great images for free on website like Pexels or Pixabay, or even take photos yourself with a decent camera.
- Use benefit-driven text over images: Make your pin stand out by using a clear font type and powerful words that explain what your pin is about.
- Add your logo: This will differentiate your pins with other brands and build brand recognition.
- Give your pins a compelling title and description
Here’s a great example of a quality pin. It uses clear text and powerful words to entice the user to click through. It also has a relevant image and includes the website URL in the Pin:
So, if Pin Quality determines the quality of your pins, what’s Pinner Quality?
Increasing your Pinner Quality will also help boost your impressions and improve search rankings.
Following all the tips in this post is the best way to improve both Pin and Pinner Quality.
Someone Stole Your Pins
Believe it or not, this happens more often than it should. Some people will do that: they will steal your pin images and use them to drive traffic to their spammy website.
I noticed at some point my traffic for a few of my most popular pins started decreasing super fast. I had no idea what was happening, until I discovered my own pin by accident and it was linked to someone elses website.
They had stolen my pin and it was damaging my pin stats as well.
Its so frustrating, but there is one simple way to deal with this! Heres .
After I followed those steps, the stolen pins were immediately taken down and my own pins started picking back up.
Help People Shop Your Look
Shop the Look pins are a really popular way for pinners to earn money by promoting products they are literally wearing or using. Im sure youve seen them they look something like this:
As long as your account is set up as a business account , you can create Shop the Look pins. For items youve tagged in your pins, someone can click on that little blue dot, see the item, make a purchase, and you earn a commission. In some ways its similar to affiliate marketing, but its with individual products on individual pins.

Pin Good Quality Images Only
In 2013, Philadelphia-based startup Curalate, which calls itself the worlds leading marketing and analytics suite for the visual web did some intense number-crunching on a database of 500,000 images to try and figure out which images did well on Pinterest and why. On the request of Wired.com, they then undertook the massive task of that encompassed all the elements of a popular Pinterest image.
This image from cooking show host Paula Deen won out:
The image, called Aunt Peggys Cucumber, Tomato, and Onion Salad has been repinned 307,000 times, liked 8,000 times, and commented upon 300 times.
- No human faces
- Moderate light and color
- Portrait style
Youre not always going to be able to create the perfect Pinterest image. But incorporate enough of these characteristics and youll frequently be able to create a viral one.
Test Evaluate Adjust Repeat
Any good social media marketer knows that trial and error is a fundamental part of the job. offers several tools and actionable insights that help you see how your audience is engaging with your content.
Whether something is working or not, its always good practice to take a step back and evaluate why. After youve learned why something works, it will be easier to apply in the future.

How Related Pins Work
is based on related pins, Pinterests recommendation system. Whenever a user clicks on a pin on Pinterest, if they scroll down, Pinterest shares other pins that are similar.
Related pins are selected and displayed based on:
- Board co-occurrence pins that are saved to the same boards.
- Session co-occurrence pins that are saved during the same session by users.
- Search query relevance
- Visual similarity of images
Can you influence these factors to get your pins relating to the top pins in your niche?
Yes, you can!
There are a few things you can do to help your pins get into the related pins pool:
These actions will help you give your pins the best possible chance of getting into related pin feeds. Now, how do you get your pins found in search?
Create A Separate Pinnable Image
One way to overcome the size limitations of video thumbnails on Pinterest is to create a separate paintable image. Once again, you can use easy and inexpensive tools like PicMonkey or Canva to create these images. Canva recently launched a new series of to make it even easier for you.
Creating a separate pinnable image does have one drawback this image will not play the video back on Pinterest. Thats fine with me the potential benefits far outweigh that one measly drawback.
The benefits of having a separate pinnable image for videos:
- Brings traffic to your site
- Embedded video can be watched on your site increasing visit duration
- No annoying cat videos to distract the viewer, only your great content
Im sure Internet marketing greats like Michael Stelzner, and Chris Brogan would all agree that while social media is great, it is always best to have your own platform, a home on the web where you can control how your content is shown. Vimeo and YouTube are both great tools to host your videos. Theyre both also great for attracting new viewers. However, theyre not the best at converting.
People watching your videos on , Vimeo or on Pinterest have to take at least one more step to sign up for your email list or buy your product or service. You have a higher chance of a conversion if the video is viewed on your site and fewer steps are necessary.
