Dont join every board that you can possibly find. Like everything in blogging, you should be selective about which boards you are a part of.

Here are a few tips on how to determine which boards to join, and then later which boards you should remain a member of. Its perfectly ok to leave a board if you find that its not working for you.

  • Look for boards in your niche
  • Is the board active and are people pinning regularly to it?
  • Check the content shared on the board and determine if its good quality content
  • How many people are following the board? If there are only a few people, it may not be worth your time.
  • What are the group board rules? Most boards will have specific rules that you must follow if you are pinning to it, for example for every pin you must re-pin 2 other pins from other pinners. Ensure you will be committing the time to your Pinterest strategy to follow the rules of the board.
  • Use your analytics to check out which boards are performing for you and leave ones that are not. The analytics shows you which boards have the most impressions, clicks and saves.

Once you have discovered group boards that you would like to join you need to get accepted to them.

If you plan to create your own group boards, I suggest setting up the request to join so you can easily approve new members rather than receive lots of request in your inbox which you have to review and manually add the new contributors.

The second section is your Latest Pins. This section contains all the pins youve recently saved on Pinterest.

The third section is your Latest Boards. This section contains the boards that youve recently saved to on Pinterest.

You should get started with 10- 20 boards that are relevant to your niche and blog.

To create a new board, go to the top of the boards page and select the Create Board with the red plus symbol.

Then name your board and click Create. You will now have a brand-new board that you can start to pin to.

You should have these boards set up on your profile.

  • Blog posts board where you pin blog posts from your blog only so visitors can find your content easily.
  • Specific category boards based on what content you plan to pin and your blog niche.
  • Freebies or eBooks boards if you have something to give away, otherwise this could come later.
  • Create one or more group boards A board that you invite other Pinterest users to collaborate on and pin their own pins. You can set rules such as for every pin they pin to the board, they must also pin another pin from the board this helps to get your own pins re-pinned on Pinterest.
  • If you are not sure what boards to create, use Pinterest to help you! Type in some keywords that relate to your blog in the search and see what Pinterest suggests.
  • Dont create boards that dont make sense for your audience, or your niche. Keep the boards on brand, and if they are not on brand make them private!

Dont Get Clever With Your Board Names

Use your best keyword phrases! That way, interested people can find your boards via search engines .

Here you can see that my social media marketing tips board is 4th on the 2nd page of Google results.

The maximum allowed characters is 50, but they might not all show on your profile.

While its nice to have neat, tidy names that fit in the display area, its not required. Go with what best describes the board.

For example, Social Media Scheduling Tools & Tips doesnt all fit on the profile view of the board. But that tips keyword is still there for SEO purposes!

If someone should search Social Media Scheduling Tips this board would be more likely to surface due to that.

Dont concoct a name thats cute and unique. Use phrases Pinners are actually searching for!

From the top right bar, click the magnifying glass icon.

A search panel will pop up. Start typing! Take note of the phrases that appear.

Pin It On Group Boards

Therefore, you need to post it on existing group boards with lots of followers.

To do this, head on to PinGroupieand find the most relevant boards related to your topic. Filter the results according to category, followers, title, and description. Join as many boards as possible so you can pin your content there.

To maximize your efforts, target active boards with lots of followers.

However, not all boards found on PinGroupie are accepting at the moment. You need to visit each board one by one see read its description to see if theyre accepting new contributions. If yes, then you will see the directions on how you can join the board. If not, you need to move on and find another board instead.

For your descriptions, you can use up to 500 characters, but we recommend prioritizing whats important to get across in the first 50-60 characters. These are most likely to show up in peoples feeds.

Just like your Pin title, you want to make sure the Pin description relates closely to the Pin image or video.

Finally, description copy is more important than just what users see it informs relevancy, and determines where the content appears. Make sure you include important keywords and brand names in this field when applicable.

Look for a group board with a really awesome title. Make sure the board title is something that people are searching on Pinterest. The more niche-specific, the better. Look for a low number of contributors. Less than twenty is ideal, less than ten is even better. You want to be able to work with the other users to share great content on Pinterest. Make sure the content inside the board is really good and matches the title of the board. You want to make sure the content of the board is something you want your audience to see. You dont need group boards to be successful on Pinterest, so better to not have any than to be part of bad boards. Check to see if your pins are getting the results you want through Tailwind insights. If your pins on the group boards are getting no saves and no clicks, then leave the board and focus on your personal boards. You dont want to be wasting your time.

Dont create a board just for the fun of it. You always want to have a purpose behind your boards and that purpose should always be sharing your content.

    • Keep it simple. Dont ask contest participants to do five different things in order to enter. Make it a two-step process: Create a board, and tell you about that board

    In the past, you could join a ton of group boards and then get your pins seen to a wide variety of people who werent your followers.

    Whats important to note is that you should be joining niche groups and not general group boards, which allow you to pin any topic to the board.

    Collect And Curate Awesome Content

    In the real world, professional curators gather, organize and display items for museums and galleries. Your job as an online curator is to do the same thing for your virtual audience.

    Being a Pinterest curator means you pick the best images and then organize them in an interesting way that benefits your core audience. In other words, you cherry-pick all the best images related to your topic and pin them to your boards.

    If you do a good job, itll help you build your authority, and people will eventually look to you as the go-to source for cool images on your topic. When that happens, you can bet theyll come back to you again and again, giving you lots of chances to tell them about your blog.

    Once you pin an image or video, its immediately posted to your followers New pages. After that, you have a very short window of time for it to go viral on Pinterest. Some say as little as 20-30 minutes.

    Does that mean hope is lost if your image doesnt immediately go viral?

    Well, not entirely. Your pins do stay visible on your pinboards, and occasionally one of them will get picked up by another user and may even get repinned a few times, sending you a small stream of traffic.

    Still, the difference is huge. Compared to the amount of people who will see your image when its new, the number of people who will bother to pick through your old pins is minuscule.

    For most niches, thats between 6 AM and 6 PM, Eastern time, but again, thats just a rule of thumb. The smart strategy is to look at your traffic stats for your own blog to see when you consistently get the most traffic, and then plan to pin during those times, because thats when your audience is surfing the web and most likely to spread the word.
