Because no ones going to follow you if you have poor content. While its also a great idea to have a visually appealing blog design, thats not going to help you grow your social media followers.
And one of the first things a pinner is going to read is your headline. You have about two seconds for them to decide if that pin is worthy of their time.
Your headline should also show a benefit for reading your post. Will your pin help them blog better? Earn more money? Save them time? Have the best chocolate chip cookies ever?
If you can show a benefit for the reader in your headline, they are more likely to click through to your post.
Step : Pin To Your Own Boards Regularly
One of the biggest mistakes I made was neglecting the followers I had already acquired.
This is a mistake- people have followed me for my content, and I was only putting other peoples images in front of them!
Now I pin images from group boards to my own boards to keep it varied, but regularly pin my own images to my own boards too.
So if you want more Pinterest followers, make sure to pin your own graphics to your own boards too.
This means the people following your individual boards are more likely to repin them fortheir followers to see and they could eventually become your followers too!
Pay Attention To How You Name Your Boards
If you want your boards to be discovered by more people through search, make sure youre optimising them for that very reason. Give your boards specific names, and make sure you accurately describe the content of each board.
As we mentioned before, make sure you use the right keywords and include the keywords on the board name and description. Oh, and dont forget to use relevant hashtags.

A/b Test Your Pins To See What Works
You don’t have to throw spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks. By testing different variables with your audience, you can continually improve your campaigns as you learn more about what resonates with them.
- Alternate headlines for your pin title
- Alternate thumbnail images for your pin
- Alternate post copy for your pin’s description
Just be sure to only test one variable at a time. Set a time period to run the test, and then compare each post’s performance using Pinterest analytics. Just make sure your A/B test’s results are statistically significant before you make any decisions on future runs.
Engage With Other Pinners And Popular Brands
There are plenty of ways that you can achieve this, including:
- Manual pinning
- Repinning content from the explore and trending pages
- Sharing other users content
- Adding comments to other peoples pins
- Using a pin scheduler. Tools like Tailwind are hugely popular, but there are others out there too, like Viralwoot, Buffer and SocialPilot
Leave helpful comments, follow others when they follow you and pin regularly.

Utilize The Search Bar
2 billion searches are made every month on Pinterest. And 87% of pinners bought something because of Pinterest.
Now, dont you want a piece of that pie?
The best way to find relevant keywords that youll use in your board titles, board descriptions, pin descriptions, and on your profile is to use the search bar.
Lets say your blog is about making money at home. To find relevant keywords you could type make money into the search bar to start:
Youll be given loads of suggestions. I suggest getting as specific as possible by taking a general keyword and turning it into a long-tail keyword.
For example, the general keyword you began with: make money.
See the suggestions below? You can create excellent long-tail keywords, such as make money at home, or make money blogging.
Use Keywords In Your Board Names And Pin Descriptions
When writing your pin description, it’s critical you remain specific and descriptive. This ensures the highest chance that your pin will match a user’s true search intent. For instance, let’s say you have a pin for healthy dinner recipes. Youre more likely to have users find and engage with your pin if its saved to a board titled “Healthy Recipes” than something vague like “Healthy.”

Step : Pin About General Topics
This might sound strange, but its kind of obvious.
But one of the easiest tips I can give on how to get followers on Pinterest is to pin about more topics.
It does make sense- if you only pin about how to make felt dinosaurs, youre only going to get people following you who are interested in felt dinosaurs.
Which is fine, and especially good if you want a really focused, engaged group of followers that you know what theyre after.
But it wont be as big a following if you were to pin just about felting.
Because more people will be interested in just felting than specifically felt dinosaurs.
Dont feel the need to pin about everything however.
And my blog isnt about beauty or food, so theres no point to me in having them follow me.
And Im still managing to grow my following!
Create An Instagram Challenge
have always been popular , and now they’re appearing more frequently on Instagram Reels.
Creating a successful Instagram challenge can catapult your account into the zeitgeist reaching thousands, or even millions, of potential followers.
For the best results, make sure that participation is as easy as possible, create a branded hashtag to tie the challenge back to your brand, and think about what people will enjoy participating in.

Put It On Your Website
Add the new from MiloTree . This is a relatively new plugin that comes in a free or paid version. You may not like the idea of having pop ups on your website but the slide in from MiloTree is subtle enough not to bother your visitors. Plus, its not for the sake of email collecting it just shows that you have a and are getting the word out about it.
Create Topic Related Group Boards
Group boards are a great way to attract some new followers. Group boards still have some value so be sure to create topic specific group boards. Only add members that are consistent and add value to group boards.
Group boards usually attract more followers than regular boards. Its also a smart technique to connect with other content creators.

Pin Consistently And Frequently
As with most other social networks, consistent and frequent sharing can often be the key to building an audience and keeping them engaged with your content.
Timing can be important, too, though with global audiences, its often better to spread your content out over a span of the whole 24 hours so youre leaving out people in other time zones. This exposes you to more of your audience more frequently and often leads to more pins, shares, and comments as a result.
P.S. You can easily do all this and more with Buffer.
With frequency, more is often better, we find, with 5x a day being optimal. Some experts recommend as much as 15-20x times a day, but if youre a small company or brand, its better to pick a lower number and stay consistent than to do higher numbers intermittently.

So dont be afraid if you only have a few of your own photos. Pinning content from other users will make you popular just the same.

Most of the photos pinned to the board arent Maryanns own. Theyre photos she genuinely cared about and saved to her board.
The result?
Four million followers.
Tip: Be selective about the photos you pin to your boards. They should fit your niche and catch attention at the same time.
Make The Necessary Connections
Thats why you should connect it to your website, social media accounts, or online shop.
When you do this, Pins from these accounts get attributed to you.
Tip: To claim your website and social media accounts, click on the three dots at the top right toolbar of your account. Click Edit Settings.
On the left toolbar, click Claim. You can then fill in your information to claim your site, shop, or social media account.
Following other Pinners gives you two benefits:

Tip: Its a good idea to follow Pinners within your niche. When you do, the content you get will be relevant to re-pin to your boards.

Collaborating with likeminded influencers and brands is a major win-win. You’ll be able to benefit from brand association and tap into a new pool of potential followers.
The best news? Collaborations dont have to break the bank. Some of the most effective partnerships are simple and mutually beneficial.

Using the hashtag #healthyrecipes is better than simply inputting #healthy while more users likely search #healthy, those users are not necessarily looking for recipes. #Healthyrecipes helps you reach a more targeted audience.

Do not undervalue your pins.
If you are not investing money and time into designing quality pins then you are doing it all wrong. Your visuals have to be unique, and attractive. The quality must be nice.

First, add text overlays in your pins to detail any special features in your pinned products.
Next, you need to make your descriptions detailed. You can include up to 500 characters on Pinterest, and the site recommends that you add as much helpful information as you can.
However, as the first 50 to 60 characters are the ones most likely to show in peoples feeds, these are the characters that arguably matter the most. With that in mind, in your intro, focus on what is most relevant to your audience.
Also, Pinterest advises that you use complete sentences, relevant keywords, and a call-to-action . In your CTA, feature action verbs such as see, shop, find and buy, so your visitors know what you want them to do next.
