How To Reach Out To Someone In A Comments On Linkedin

Only possessing a LinkedIn profile isnt enough to catch the attention of visitors. What you have to do is be active on LinkedIn.

But liking others is also not enough to improve your visibility on LinkedIn.

And I understand that not everyone should write and share articles, but you can add some value in other ways.

If you want to increase the number of people visiting your LinkedIn profile and expand your network, writing interesting comments on LinkedIn is a way to do it.

There are no exact rules for writing engaging comments, but there are some guidelines that you should keep in mind:

  • Make sure that the articles topic is relevant to your interests and career goals.
  • Think about the subject before you comment and consider the popularity of the author and the post – you should strive to connect with the relevant people and meet connections in the right field, so be strategic about it and invest your time wisely.
  • Be professional at all times.
  • Be polite and dont insult others.
  • Check your grammar, punctuation, and spelling before you submit a comment.
  • Add value to the post by adding your experience and thoughts on the topic.
  • Dont self-promote.
  • Dont use ALL CAPS.
  • Tag the author and explain why you agree – add additional perspectives and alternative solutions
  • Mention other people you know who may have helpful input – a mention or tag will notify your connections that your post or comment might be relevant to them.
  • Ask a clarifying follow-up question.
  • Perfect Linkedin Connection Request Message Templates

LinkedIn doesnt have the numbers that Facebook does.

Its not as sexy as Instagram.

Its not in the news as much as Twitter.

But man. Its still the best damn platform for networking with other professionals. And if youre a salesperson looking for more prospects and a broader network, it can be your best friend.

Ive written about LinkedIn before. You can read my guide on how to , and the differences between . But you dont need a subscription to take advantage of the most important benefit LinkedIn has to offer: the ability to connect with other professionals.

If you want to expand your network, you have to reach out to new connections.

And yeah, its kind of a struggle.

Not only do you have to convince this person youre worth connecting with, you also have to stand out from the crowdGod knows they get 20 new requests a day.

If only there was some kind of guide to help you write the best possible LinkedIn connection request message

Oh wait, youre already reading it!

In the sections that follow, well summarize the qualities that make a LinkedIn connection message great, and review some LinkedIn connection request message templates you can use to send some introduction messages of your own.

Get People To Send Connection Requests To You

If people send you connection requests, then its up to you whether to accept or decline, and you dont have to worry about being marked as spam.

At the basic level, you need to make sure you have a visible, . Make sure your profile tells people who find your page through a search exactly who you are, what you do, and why youd be a valuable addition to their network.

A more advanced trick for attracting lots of connection requests is to set up an autoresponder. Heres a real example of an email you could send to people who share their email address with your company :

By doing this, youll be asking people to send you the connection request. Note that I even used the same font and colors used by LinkedIn, so it looks like it came from LinkedIn, even though it doesnt.

While you will get tons of requests this way, you shouldnt accept every connection. After all, LinkedIn limits you to 40,000 connections.

Prioritize requests from people who live in countries where you do business. Also, before accepting anyones request, make sure the accounts are real you dont want to waste time with recruiters or people trying to sell you stuff you have zero interest in.

Make Sure Your Linkedin Profile Is On Point

How to Connect with Someone on LinkedIn

Before you start connecting with people on the platform, fill out all the sections on your LinkedIn profile and make sure it resonates with your target audience.

Youâll want to add a professional profile photo, create an attention-grabbing headline, write an engaging summary, as well as add your current position, work history, skills, and educational background.

Having a detailed LinkedIn profile will help the people youâre trying to connect with understand who you are and what you do, increasing the chances that theyâll accept your request.

    Personalize The Connection Request Message

If you want people to take your connection request seriously, donât send a generic message that gives the recipient no clue about who you are and why you want to connect.

Personalizing the connection request message for each person you try to connect with will significantly boost your chances of connecting with people and building a large network on LinkedIn.

Start your message by introducing yourself and letting the other person know what you do. Explain how you found them and let them know why youâd like to connect.

If you share a mutual connection or interest, you can also reference this in the message.

    Connect With People You Know

Connecting with people you already know is a good way to start.

This step is insanely easy. Tons of people you already know are using LinkedIn.

Navigate your way to LinkedIns Add Connections page. Its here that LinkedIn will ask you for an email address and start the process of importing contacts from your personal email account.

After you go through this process, LinkedIn will let you select from dozens or maybe even hundreds of people you know but havent yet connected to.

But hold on! Dont hit the Add X Selected connection button yet.

    Why?

If you send invitations from this screen, LinkedIn will send that boring, impersonal default invitation message.

Wait until after youve read this entire post so you can use my successful formula for LinkedIn requests.

Will some people you know accept the basic LinkedIn message? Sure. But you want to write an irresistible LinkedIn connection for people you know, but maybe dont know as well as others.

If youve only communicated with someone via email once or twice, they might not remember you or be convinced they should commit to something as serious as accepting a LinkedIn connection request . They could ignore or delete your request or even worse, report you as spam.

  • You Met Them In Person

This is by far the best situation. You meet someone in person, at work, at a networking event, or at some other shindig. You say hey, we should connect on LinkedIn. Then you send the message. Easy peasy. The industry term for this is a slam dunk. As long as you make a decent impression, the connection will likely be successful.

Do You Connect With The Hiring Manager

How to connect with someone you don

Yes, says Work. It doesnt hurt to get your name out there and let them know that you applied for a position.

That said, dont send the connection request immediately after your interview. Instead, send a winning thank-you note after the interview. Then wait a week or two after applying to send a LinkedIn request. Its a perfect chance for you to follow up with the hiring manager and remind them of how fantastic youd be at the company.

    Read The Contact Settings

There are many people on LinkedIn who arent engaged on the platform. They signed up and forgot about their profiles, or they just simply checked out for some reason. Some may indicate in their contact settings that they are not open to receiving connections, but if they include their contact details here, or anywhere else on their profile, you have implicit permission to contact them. If you want to be cautious, first contact them and let them know why you want to connect. Also mention how you can help them. Then ask if you can connect on LinkedIn for a mutually beneficial and connected relationship.

Dont Miss The Opportunity To Start A Conversation

When you connect with someone on LinkedIn without a message, you are missing a huge opportunity.

LinkedIn is the social networking site for business owners and professionals. When you connect with someone, you add them to your network.

In order to build a valuable network full of potential customers, clients and collaborations, start out with having a conversation with your new contact.

When someone logs into their LinkedIn account and sees a handful of new connection requests 2 with a message and 3 without, which ones do you think they will look at first?

When you receive a genuine message from a new connection, the usual thing to do would be to reply. Now you have moved beyond one of many connections in the newsfeed, to one to one in the inbox.

    Prepare Yourself Mentally And Physically

How To Connect With People Using LinkedIn

According to experts, were built to display anxiety and to recognize it in others. If your body and mind are anxious, your audience will notice. Hence, its important to prepare yourself before the big show so that you arrive on stage confident, collected and ready.

Your outside world is a reflection of your inside world. What goes on in the inside, shows on the outside. Bob Proctor

Exercising lightly before a presentation helps get your blood circulating and sends oxygen to the brain. Mental exercises, on the other hand, can help calm the mind and nerves. Here are some useful ways to calm your racing heart when you start to feel the butterflies in your stomach:

    Send The Hail Mary Inmail

When all else fails in how to network on LinkedIn, we have the InMail. to contact people who are not first-degree connections, which I consider to be the equivalent of a Hail Mary toss in a football game. LinkedIn promotes the use of InMail as being a very effective way to communicate. Currently, only paid accounts to get access to InMail. Though some people might shirk at the idea of paying for such a service, consider it a business investment that may have lucrative potential. Everyones experience will be different, so you should at least experiment with the InMail and determine your own ROI.

Do: Make The Outreach About Them

Think about the last time you received an email or had a conversation with someone, and the person on the other end couldnt stop talking about themselves. While the interaction may have left them feeling good, you were likely annoyed or uninterested. Thats because were innately wired to connect, not control.

Harvard neuroscientists have even discovered that talking about ourselves gives us the the same pleasure signals in the brain as food or money.

We evaluate whether a connection is valuable, in part, by determining if it offer two-way engagement and invites reciprocity. Its why professional speakers, whose job is to connect with their audiences, deliberately spend less time talking about themselves than listening to their audience. Its also why you should avoid filling up an entire LinkedIn message with talk about who you are and what you do.

Instead, put the person you hope to network with at the center of your outreach. After all, the point of networking is to build a relationship, not monopolize one.

As youre learning how to network on LinkedIn, you can get to know more about your connections by asking them great questions. Questions not only help you gain information and insight, but they help you move conversations forward and transition from online to offline networking.

    Find Common Career Ground

Since LinkedIn is centered around careers, its important for there to be some job-related link between you and the person you admire. This could be pretty much anything, from working in the same industry to knowing a couple of the same people, but its important to do a little more diggingboth on LinkedIn and on the web as a wholeto find that common ground. Believe me: Its much easier to break the ice when your message is tethered to something career-related and personal than to something generic .

For example, if you saw this person speak at an event recently , use that as the jumping off point for a stellar opening line to your message . If you have a mutual contact who both of you know very well, that person can also be a great tool .

    Be Wary Of Linkedin Lions

Reach Out: How to Connect with Someone on LinkedIn ...

We shared the benefits of an extensive LinkedIn network. So, that means you should connect with anyone and everyone, right? Probably not. Some users rack up connections with total strangers, but its not a great strategy.

Theres debate about connecting with people whom youve never met before. Sometimes its not a bad idea. But adding connections solely for the sake of increasing the number can backfire.

, and youll want to have a network of valuable connections whom you know and can rely on. Maybe these people can offer you a job, give a recommendation, or provide an insight. If you continue to add people who are total strangers, you may develop a larger, but irrelevant network of professionals on the site.

When you become active on LinkedIn, you may start receiving connection invites from people you dont know. Its best to be selective in choosing to accept. Check out the persons profile and be discerning. Look at their network and see if theyre connected with other respected professionals.

Be wary of whats known as a LinkedIn LION, which stands for LinkedIn Open Networker. These types of users attempt to connect with anyone and everyone to build the biggest possible network for themselves.

Though not all LIONS are harmful, some of these users could be spammers that pose risks of identity theft, scams, or invasions of privacy. If you connect with them, this also gives them access to your connections.
