If youre currently using LinkedIn to find a new job or may use LinkedIn to find a job in the future, read this tutorial breakdown to learn how to edit your job-seeking preferences on LinkedIn to best align with your job search.

To begin, click;Me;in the top right corner of your homepage.

Next, click;Settings & Privacy.

On the left side bar, select;Data privacy.

Under Data privacy, select;Job seeking preferences.

Under job seeking preferences, you will be able to edit your job application settings, sharing your profile after clicking apply, commute preferences, and more.

To begin changing your settings, click;Job application settings.

Here you will be able to save and manage your resume and answers, manage your resumes, and save Self-ID information.

To delete or download a resume saved, click;the three small dots;next to your resume document.

Click;Delete or Download.;You can also upload a resume here so its handy for future jobs you apply to!

Click;Back;to return back to the Job settings page.

The next setting allows you to choose whether or not you share your profile with the job poster when you apply to a job. Click the;white circle;to toggle yes or no.

How To Make Parts Of Your Linkedin Profile Private

Thats the bad news: most of LinkedIn is public by default. The good news is that you can update your settings to be as public or as stealthy as you like. You can adjust these settings depending on your needs. Need to promote your personal brand? You probably want your profile to be public. Want to look for a new job? Its probably a good idea to increase the level of privacy on your profile. Heres how you can do that:

1 First, youre going to want to turn off that pesky update everyone I know when I edit my profile feature. To do this, first click the edit pencil icon.

Next, switch the option at the bottom marked Share profile changes to No.

Voila! Youve officially entered stealth mode.

2 Now, what if you want to make your profile less public? Its time to take a long, hard look at your privacy settings. To reach these, just click the top-right menu option that says Settings & Privacy.

Then, click on Privacy, and youll see a host of options to make your profile less publicly-accessible. This is where you can specify whether you show up in search results, news results, on your companys page, etc.

When you search for a role, LinkedIn doesnt just throw every listing they have that matches the keywords that you type in the search bar. Theres a number of filters available that will help you narrow down your search to make sure you dont waste time viewing options that dont suit you.

After you type in your desired job title and location in the search bar, make sure to go through all of the job filters and set your requirements. To view only the most relevant positions, you can filter the listings by the Date Posted. You can also select the desired Experience Level, Job Type, select a specific Industry and even specify the job Title again.;

At Apollo, we also like to mark contacts as” left company” when they’ve been updated with a checkbox custom field. You can do this from Apollo and automatically update in Salesforce if your Apollo App is integrated with SFDC and you create a custom field on their end to match.;

If you didnt find the role you were looking for, you can set the Job Alerts on the same page. LinkedIn will then notify you if theres a new listing that matches your description.;

To set up job alerts on LinkedIn, go to the Jobs page and begin a new job search by typing in your job title and location into the Search Bar.;

On top of the vacancies list, toggle the Job Alerts Off switch on.;

If youve resolved to find a job in 2020, I think youll want to know about four features LinkedIn rolled out over the past two years that might help you land one. Theyre available to all LinkedIn users, so you dont need to pay for a LinkedIn Premium membership to enjoy them.

Ill detail the features in a just moment. But first, a reminder that before making any updates to your , and I mean any, be sure to turn off the notifications LinkedIn sends to your network. You dont want to mistakenly alert your employer that youre in job search mode or unnecessarily annoy your friends.

To silence those pesky LinkedIn notifications:

    Using An Incognito Browser May Not Help You Stay Private

    If you are job hunting on work equipment, incognito web browsers can help you keep your search under wraps. You dont want your browser history to reveal your LinkedIn searches, after all. On an incognito web browser, you can run LinkedIn searches of people you want to work for without using your LinkedIn account.

    But here is an important caveat. Although going incognito prevents your web browser from saving your search history, the websites you visit are still collecting your activity like normal. If you dont want people to know you viewed them, you must be logged out of your LinkedIn account, even in an incognito browser. Trust me: I tried snooping on two of my colleagues accounts in a private browser window and both of them saw that I had viewed their profiles because I was still logged in on LinkedIn.Now lets take the scenario in which youre opening a private tab on your mobile phone browser to search for a persons LinkedIn page.     Who you are connected with can be valuable information. Beyond snoopy bosses, there are also snoopy recruiters, and maybe you dont want someone mining your network for potential hires without going through you first. If you want to keep your connections private for either reason, go to your LinkedIn account:

  • Select: How others see your LinkedIn activity.
  • Choose who can see your list of connections and select Only you.
  • Maybe you dont want your current employer to know youve been polishing up your LinkedIn bio. If you want to keep your activity notifications more private from curious employers on LinkedIn:

  • Under Settings & Privacy, select: How others see your LinkedIn activity.
  • Select Share job changes, education changes, and work anniversaries from profile.
  • Choose no when it asks if you want your network to be notified about activity.

    How to Create LinkedIn Job Alerts

    If you go back to the Privacy Setting marked “Signal your interest to recruiters at companies you have created job alerts for,” you will see hyperlinked text below it that reads “Manage job alerts.” Click on this.

    From there, you can enter keywords for jobs that would interest you. These are a few of the keyword phrases I have set for my own job alerts, but there could be many more keyword combinations that would work, too.

    • Spanish to English freelance translator

    • Portuguese to English freelance translator

    • Life sciences translator

    • Freelance copywriter

    • Freelance editor

    These are broad enough to see a lot of opportunities, but they are also specific enough to filter all the freelance/contract work that might fall into these categories. I can be more specific by including keyword phrases with the types of documents I handle, but this is less important on LinkedIn than it is on the back end of your website, for example, when potential customers are using a much larger search enginelike Googleto find you.

    Notice in the screenshot below that LinkedIn offers suggested job search terms. You can click on any of these to add them to your list of keywords to save or remove them. Of the ones it suggested for me in this example, I would only keep “wellness writer,” as it fits one of the descriptions for services I offer to my copywriting clients.

    If you haven’t set up a profile, take a few minutes to make sure you are representing yourself in the best possible way. Make sure you have a profile picture, relevant skills, experience, and location added so you show up in search when hirers are looking for candidates with your background. Use your summary section to paint a detailed picture of who you are and what you’re looking for. Pro tip: try to use keywords that are in relevant job descriptions.

    Why Arent Profile Updates Shared With My Network

    LinkedIn has a vested interest in keeping people scrolling through their LinkedIn Feed . They have made a slew of changes to the LinkedIn Feed to make it sticky. The updates that are shown are no longer chronological but are now curated for the reader based on relevancy. LinkedIn wants their newsfeed to be interesting and engaging. Back in the day, very few people scrolled through LinkedIns newsfeed because it was BORING! Nothing but connection notices and updates that a profile was changed.

    Since LinkedIn has introduced a more interesting newsfeed, engagement is at an all-time high. I know myself, I enjoy scrolling through the posts of my network and interests now that the boring updates no longer clog and pollute the LinkedIn Homepage Newsfeed.

    So what does this mean to you?

    If you want people to know you updated your profile by adding a new experience, post an update manually.

    I will caution you, when you post the update, do not state, I just updated my profile, what do you think?
