Whatsapp Shopping: Whatsapp Catalog & Whatsapp Cart
With the increase of shopping through chats and social media, itâs no surprise tech giants in the industry like , WeChat,LINE and KakaoTalk are all on the e-commerce bandwagon.
This includes WhatsApp who also started rolling out new WhatsApp Shopping features like WhatsApp Catalog and WhatsApp Cart to facilitate buying and selling on its platform.
As this is WhatsAppâs first venture in integrating e-commerce capabilities onto its platform, it makes sense for them to start with the Business App which has a lower entry barrier compared to the API.
Business App Account
So how does it work? The WhatsApp Catalog is made for small businesses to showcase their products and services. Customers can scroll through the listing, add items to their Cart and then message the business to confirm the deal.
For businesses, setting up your Catalog is a straightforward process. Simply upload pictures of your products, add the descriptions and price. Once done, promote your business by sharing your Catalog link or product links in-app or on other websites.
As of July 2020, more than 40 million people view WhatsApp Catalogs every month. If this continues successfully, it could be a matter of time before WhatsApp adds this feature to their API as well.
Business API Account
Generally, adding any new features to an API is a costly, complex and time-consuming process. We believe this could be one reason WhatsApp started the Catalog feature with the Business App first.
Amazing Features For A Freeware App
Quick Links
Perhaps the single-most-important reason for WhatsApps popularity is that its completely free. Initially, the creators of WhatsApp had figured they would take low, yearly subscription fees from their users. But it never came to fruition. If it had, WhatsApp wouldnt be as popular as its now.
Whats even better is that there are no ads on WhatsApp. For a free app that gives you so many possibilities, this is a staggering feature.
For a freeware, WhatsApp also boasts amazing features. Apart from being a wonderfully convenient text messaging app, WhatsApp also gives you the ability to share pictures, videos, documents, voice recordings, as well as your contacts and locations. All this, in addition to features like voice and video calling, makes WhatsApp an all-in-one app, the likes of which we had never seen before.
How To Use Whatsapp Business With Multiple Users Via The App
The official WhatsApp Business app was made for small companies with a low amount of incoming messages. For that reason, its meant to be accessed by one person.
There is a work-around that allows your team to use WhatsApp Business with a maximum of two users. In this situation, one team member uses your account via the app, the other manages it via WhatsApp Web.
This is the furthest you can push it without using the WhatsApp Business API.
In the near future, WhatsApp will allow its users to log in to one account with up to 4 users at the same time. This feature is currently in beta, but well of course let you know once its ready.

Messenger Time Spent On Social Media Statistics
58% of people in North America use social media to stay connected to their friends and close ones, according to a GlobalWebIndex graph.
It doesnt come as a surprise, then, to see Messenger and WhatsApp having such a high usage rate. The former hosts the accounts of 72% of all internet users, while the latter has this figure at 66%.
There is an obvious explanation for why that is. Humans are social creatures and, as such, we need connection. With the rise of the smartphone , reaching out to another human being is 1-2 taps away. These apps business model is based on an innate human desire, which is why it works so well.
Therefore, we can reasonably expect the average time spent on social media to rise further.
New information that supports this claim continues to surface a SimilarWeb article from 2016 says Americans were spending an average of 48.5 minutes a day on Kakao, while their Messenger usage is registered at 9.36 minutes per day.
Regardless, things are looking up for Facebook Messenger as well. An eMarketer article suggests an 11.8 million US user growth for the app in the next four years. This would mean a staggering 138.1 million users will access the app in the US alone by 2022.
Naturally, users access Messenger mainly on mobile, with a small percentage using only the desktop app. Some even use it from their Apple Watch.
