Why Are Instagram Video Views Important

To put it simply, the number of views under your video signals how popular and potentially viral your video is. The number of views is crucial if your goal is to monetize an Instagram profile.

The marketers who might pay you to post a video featuring their product will be interested in the view count. The number of views combined with likes and the total number of followers provides invaluable metrics for the marketers. This allows them to measure the level of engagement on your profile and determine if your profile is interesting for them or not. In addition, this will also affect the price of a sponsored post on your Instagram profile.

However, you should know that Instagram counts only the views within the Instagram app. This means that if you embed an Instagram video in your blog, the views from the blog wont be counted on Instagram. The same rule applies to all other social media platforms where you might share your Instagram video.

Know You Want To Know About Your Followers

One of our favorite parts of Twitter Analytics is hidden in the tabs, where you can find lots of juicy information about your followers. But its super easy to miss.

You first have to click on the Audiences menu at the top of the dashboard, and then select what audiences you want to analyze. We dont find All Twitter Audience to be overly helpful, and instead use both Followers and Organic Audience.

A few key metrics to be sure to note include Household Income , Region , and Consumer Buying Styles . Even if you arent selling products, this information can help you craft your messaging and pick topics your audience is interested in.

For example, if you are a dry cleaner and notice that many of your followers are interested in natural living products, then you can be sure to promote your stores green practices and lack of chemicals in your services.

How Twitter Counts Views

Since these view counts will likely be used to compare Twitter with other platforms, its worth pointing out how Twitter counts a view versus those other platforms.

  • Viewability threshold: Twitter counts a view once the video has played for at least two seconds while at least 50 percent is in view, in accordance with the Media Rating Councils video viewability standard. By comparison, Facebook and Instagram count a view three seconds after a video has played, and YouTube typically counts it once 30 seconds or half of a video has played, whichever comes first.
  • Organic plus paid views: If a brand runs a video as both an organic tweet and a Promoted Video ad, Twitter will combine the respective organic and paid views into an overall view count that will appear on both the organic tweet and video ad, the spokesperson said. People will not be able to see separate counts for paid views versus organic views. Facebook, Instagram and YouTube also combine organic and paid views without delineating between the two.

By publicly displaying videos view counts, brands, publishers and others may feel pressured to pay Twitter to promote a video as an ad in order to boost its viewership and thereby the perception of its popularity. That could help to further bolster Twitters video advertising business, which has been a rare bright spot for the company, whose revenue has .

How To Get More Impressions On Your Tweets

Most of your Facebook friends couldn

If you want more impressions, you need to encourage the above methods of getting impressions. If all you want are total account impressions, all you really need to do is post more often. If you want more impressions per tweet, you need to put more effort into those tweets. Here are my tips, in no particular order.

Tweet when your audience is most active. Twitters timeline is largely, well, time-based. If you tweet at 3pm and I dont sign on until 5pm, I see all those tweets that happened in the previous two hours before I see yours. The exception is if Im engaged enough with you that your tweets show up under the curated section at the top, but you cant be guaranteed to have that kind of engagement with all of your fans. Tweet during peak hours and youll get more visibility naturally.

When are your peak hours? I recommend using a tool like Tweriod to analyze your particular followers and see. Particularly with smaller audiences, you can vary a lot from what the average on Twitter is across the board.

Make heavy use of hashtags. Twitter is not the place to be shy with tagging your posts. Yes, you have a character limit, and yes, you can only include 1-3 hashtags in a post before you start seeing lower returns. However, you should learn how to pick and use hashtags to your advantage. I recommend always aiming for something trending or at least highly trafficked whenever possible. Go ahead and read this guide for more information and strategies revolving around hashtags.

How Twitter Defines Impressions

Its difficult to dig through Twitters help system to find definitions of specific terms, but I happened to find a mention of impressions on a support page about their analytics and how to use it. Specifically, they say Impressions are times a user is served a Tweet in timeline or search results.

There are a few things worth noting about this. Remember, whenever you post a tweet, that tweet will show up in the feeds of the people who follow you. However, it will also become available in Twitter search, particularly if youve used any keywords of a type people search. It will also show up in feeds for hashtags, though in the faster moving hashtags it might not be visible due to curation. It depends if the people browsing the hashtag view it by top or by latest, or one of the other filtering options.

On top of this, a tweet is shown in the feeds of the followers of anyone who retweets your tweet. This is why influencer marketing is so important a retweet from someone with 50 followers isnt going to be worth much, while a retweet from someone with 50,000 followers is going to be worth a lot more.

Also, an impression might not actually mean a person saw the tweet. If I load my Twitter feed and then get distracted by something and close it, I probably gave +1 impression to a 20+ tweets without actually reading any of them. No bonus engagement, no interaction of any kind, but an added impression across the board.

Exporting Data: How To Discover Even More Trends In Twitter Analytics

No matter where you track your social media performance, marketers now have access to increasingly granular data about their Twitter account. The most useful feature I’ve found in Twitter Analytics is the ability to export data from the Twitter API as a CSV file.

Even power users with a ton of account activity can fairly quickly export their Analytics data right from their Twitter account.

To export your data from Twitter, select the timeframe you’d like to use, and click the “Export Data” button in the top right corner of your Twitter Analytics Dashboard.

You can then sort through your exported data using Excel in ways not possible within the platform itself. For example, I extracted the time of day of my last 2500 tweets and plotted the tweet engagement rate vs. time of day, as shown here:

What I found was that the engagement rate held steady regardless of the time of day — possibly because I have a ton of international followers. It got me thinking that I really ought to be scheduling my content for all hours of the day, not just during business hours in my local time zone. Sure, fewer people will see my updates at 2 a.m. local time, but those who do are just as likely to engage with the content as those who see it during business hours.
