How To Set Up Payments On Whatsapp
To get started with payments on WhatsApp, you’ll first have to link your bank account to the service. UPI works primarily with your phone number, and the service works with all major banks in India. The best part is that even if you don’t have a UPI account set up with your bank, you will be able to use the payments option within WhatsApp as it will create a UPI ID for you. Here’s what you need to know:
Choose your bank from the list. This should ideally be your primary UPI account.
Tap Allow again for WhatsApp to send texts to authenticate your account.
You should now see the payment method listed in the payments page.

Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your device. Then, open the chat of the contact to whom you wish to send money.
Step 2: Click on the attachment button located near the chatbox.
Step 3: Now, click on the Payments option.

Step 5: Now, click on the Send button.
Step 6: Lastly, enter your UPI PIN to approve and confirm the payment. Youll see a tick on your screen once the payment is successful.
Points to note:
- You can send money only to those contacts that have registered for WhatsApp Payments.
- If you try to send money to a contact that has not enabled the service, you will receive an option to notify the user to enable payments to receive money.

Whatsapp Pay Partners With Axis Hdfc Bank
Popular social media messaging app WhatsApp, which now has a payment system, has joined hands with Axis Bank and HDFC Bank. The other bank that it had earlier partnered with includes ICICI Bank.
Those who want to make payments through the WhatsApp app can use their Unified Payments Interface IDs. Those who want to use HDFC Bank UPI must have their mobile numbers registered with the bank and should also have a savings account in the respective bank. Only if these parameters are met can a customer use the WhatsApp UPI facility. The same regulations are applicable when it comes to Axis Bank.

Whatsapp Joins Hands With Several Top Banks
In an effort to encourage more and more cashless transactions and promote Prime Minister Narendra Modis Digital India initiative, popular messaging app WhatsApp has collaborated with a number of top banks in India.
The National Payments Corporation of India gave a nod to WhatsApp to launch its new payments feature the previous month. WhatsApp already has a user base of more than 1.5 billion. Payments can be made to various users through this feature using the chat window through the Unified Payments Interface system. With UPI, money can be sent to another person without having to provide either the account number or the IFSC code. All you need is a Virtual Payment Address . The messaging app has already collaborated with Axis Bank to provide customers this service.

Popular messaging platform WhatsApp has added support for cryptocurrency payments via its app in the United States, although the feature is only live for some users right now.

What Is Whatsapp Payments

Also, as you are sending money to WhatsApp user who has linked his phone number with the bank account and UPI, there is no need to enter the VPA or bank account number or IFSC code.

- Open the WhatsApp Messenger App in your mobile and tap on the three-dotted icon .
- Now head to the ‘Payment Option’ and a list of banks will appear on your device screen. Note: You can only select the bank account that is linked with your existing mobile number as used to register for WhatsApp.

Last month, WhatsApp Pay rolled out its payments services in India, which counts as its biggest market with over 400 million users, after receiving nod from the National Payments Corporation of India .
After launch, the Facebook-owned company said that its payments feature has been designed in partnership with NPCI using UPI, an India-first, real-time payment system that enables transactions with over 160 supported banks. With this, – will compete with players like Paytm, Google Pay, Walmart-owned PhonePe and Amazon Pay.
However, even with a 400-million user base in the country, WhatsApp Pay will only be rolled out to 20 million WhatsApp users. That’s because NPCI has said that a 30% cap will be implemented on total payment volumes via every third party payments app from January 1, 2021.
