Dont Repost Apps Take Care Of All That
Nope. It doesnt matter if you use one of those apps that leaves a big watermark of the original owners Instagram handle, either. Using a repost app without the original owners consent does nothing more than put them on notice that youve used their image. And although youd like to think every Instagrammer would be grateful for the free advertising, this isnt always the case.
If you use any sort of reposting app, you still must have the original owners express consent before you post the image. Of course, if you do have that persons consent, using an app that leaves a watermark on the image is the best way to credit that source.
Here is a more tangible way to think of it: Jims Restaurant really likes Sams Restaurants photo of a burger on Instagram. Jims Restaurant also sells burgers, and they look the same. Whats the harm in Jim using that same photo on a billboard, saying stop here, we have the best burgers! with Jims logo plastered all over the billboard?
People will see the great photo and realize a burger sounds great, and if they look close enough, they technically could see that the photo was taken in Sams restaurant. If they choose to go to Jims restaurant instead of Sams, is that really Jims fault?

Header Photo: 1500 X 500
Your header photo is the image that spans the top of your Twitter profile page. Its quite a bit larger than your profile photo so make sure to save it at the highest resolution possible. Because you have more room to be creative with this picture and it will likely be the first thing your visitors see, make it something captivating.
- Recommended 1,500 x 500 pixels.
- Maximum file size of 5 MB.
- Image types include: JPG, GIF or PNG.
How To Repost Legally
You have to get consent. Its that simple.
The most common misconception I have seen concerning reposting is that tagging, or crediting the original source is good enough, or that cropping the photo and slapping a filter on it transforms the image into a new creation under the doctrine of Fair Use.
No dice. Courts are making it clear: Generally speaking, no matter how much you edit the photo, your use of someone elses image is not Fair Use. Additionally, merely linking to the original source of the photo in the caption wont keep you out of copyright trouble. If you want to regram legally, obtaining one of the following two types of consent is mandatory:
Implied consent: Lets start with a common example that Ive seen in my own inbox. A stock photographer sends out a desk mockup to their email list, and they say feel free to use this free image, and customize it for your product! If you use the hashtag #____, you may even see your photo on our own feed. Although this stock photographer has not had a one-on-one conversation with any recipient, if one of the recipients uses that hashtag, the recipient has expressed his or her implied consent for the stock photographer to use that image on their feed.

Tap On The Plus Icon On The Top Of The Screen
When you open Instagram, by default, it will show you the home page.
On the top bar, youll see a plus icon thats the one that allows you to upload your content. By default, it opens as a New Post.
Another way to do it is by going to your profile page and tap on the plus sign there. In this case, it will open Create menu. Here, choose Post.
Precautions To Take Before You Pin
- Fair use can be a bit sketchy, and no one seems to agree about what is allowed and what isn’t. This includes book covers, movie posters, and pictures of celebrities. You are probably better off if you avoid sharing those types of images.
- If there are no “Pin it” buttons, and especially if there are no other social media sharing buttons, then assume you don’t have the owner’s permission to pin it.
- If it is something you really want to pin and aren’t sure about, then ask for permission. The worst that could happen is that you get a no.

How To Avoid Copyright Infringement
- Never change or delete the source link when pinning or re-pinning an image. Not only does this prevent future users from being able to locate the original source, but it also gives others a false idea that the image belongs to you.
Platform responsibility plays a critical role when it comes to social networks regardless of whether youre sharing, liking, tweeting, or pinning content. Sure, Pinterest includes Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and Copyright pages to inform users how to properly use the platform and educate individuals about copyright infringement, but sometimes thats not enough.

Sharing Images Instagram Copyrights And Other Rules
Youve just gotten a cappuccino from your favorite coffee shop, and all of the sudden you see the perfect background for your next Instagram post . . . so you snap a photo. Congratulations, you have now created an original work of authorship in a fixed form shielded by common law copyright protection!
Ok, thats a little dramatic, but only slightly. In the U.S., the minute you press down on the shutter of your camera and produce an image, you now automatically own the common law rights to that image.
However, that means every single photo that you see on Instagram is someones common-law copyrighted image. Its important to view your feed from this perspective, because regramming someone elses image will inherently involve copyright law.
Simply put, regramming an image without consent constitutes copyright infringement in the Unites States, and although the act of reposting sounds harmless enough, courts have awarded judgments against people or companies who felt entitled to use an image without permission.
So how do you repost legally?

Why Copyright Infringement Is A Problem
Theres no question that Pinterest encourages re-pinning community photos. After all, the platform was built on the idea of sharing and collecting digital objects. But the goal is to ensure users pin from the original source, providing credit to the content owner and including a detailed description. Disputes occur when an image is taken directly from a website and uploaded to the platforms server without approval from the owner. With a growing number of unsourced pins being saved to user boards and profiles, copyright holders are being directly impacted. Images on the platform are being exploited for commercial gain, and the personal work of artists is being stolen.

But What If I Found The Perfect Photo But Dont Know Where Its From
You found the perfect photo online , and youve given a good faith effort in searching for the original owner, but you just cant figure out who the photographer was. Since you tried but arent sure who to credit, you can just use the image, right?
Unfortunately not. Copyright laws are every bit as much at play as if you found the photo on a favorite Instagram account. Even if you cant find the photographer, someone owns the common law copyright to it, so your use of the image is still governed by copyright laws.
If you cant find the original source, do an advanced Google image search. Find the section that says usage rights, and scroll down until you find free to use and share. These are the images you can pin. Any images old enough to no longer be under copyright protection are fine. Any image noted as public domain is also free for you to use.

Take a photo of something plain , whether its a textured wall, a scene from inside your favorite cafe or the water at the beach or in a pool.
