Maybe you dont want to just mute someone Maybe youd rather unfollow and bid that account farewell. Thats fine too! When it comes to social media, we have every right to follow whoever we want. And if you find an account is no longer of interest to you, you can unfollow that person without having to feel guilty about it.
When you unfollow someone on Twitter, that person will not be notified once youve taken action. They will, however, be able to see youre no longer following them when they view your profile. One way is to visit the users profile and locate the Following button at the top. It will be blue if you have your accounts customizations set to the default Twitter color. Unless you have a private Twitter account, you don’t have much control over who can follow you. While there isn’t an official way to remove a follower from your account, you can revoke selected followers’ access to your Twitter feed by blocking and then unblocking them; doing so will remove them from your follower list without alerting them to the change.
You Provide No Information
Theres a connection between value and information. In Twitter parlance, value and information are one and the same.
The best Twitter users are those who know how to provide the right kind of information to their audience. People crave information. Some people use Twitter as a gigantic source of information for topics they are interested in.
Your Twitter feed can include a variety of information, as long as it includes plenty of really good informational nuggets.
- Link to an infographic.
- RT of an industry leaders quote.
- Blog posts about anything relevant and useful.
- Insightful observation about the industry
- Actionable tips about the industry.
Give information, and youll retain your followers. Stop giving information, and youll lose them. Its quite simple, really.

Tracking The Accounts Who Unfollow You
Now lets come to the other side of the story. Just like how you are unfollowing other accounts, it is probable that other people will unfollow your account as well.
This obviously means that you will end up having fewer followers and lower credibility. The good news is that you can track the people who unfollowed you.
But how is that possible? Wont they know Im tracking them?
Its possible through the third-party tools designed especially for this purpose. For instance, UnfollowerStats tracks the people who unfollowed you so you can unfollow them too.
And no, the people who you are tracking wont know that you are tracking me whenever they unfollow you.
This helps you to not waste your following count. Especially so on the people who are not following you and helps you appear more credible.
Through these third-party tools, you can also see the people who are not following you back who you follow. You can go ahead and unfollow them.

Reporting Users For Abusive Tweets
If a Twitter follower or group of followers are sending you abusive public messages, this can hurt your business’ reputation. While certainly blocking the users will eliminate them from your followers, you may also want to report them to Twitter to prevent them from continuing to post negative things about you.
Reporting users works much the same as when you block Twitter followers.
- Simply click on the account you wish to report then click on the same three dots you used to block them.;
- In the drop-down menu, you’ll find an option to report them to Twitter. Click on this.
- A new set of options will pop up so you can select a reason for the report to justify it.
- You may also have to include text of the the offensive tweets for Twitter to review.
Note that reporting a user won’t block them from following you, you’ll need to do that in a separate step as listed above. Also, reporting the user does not guarantee that they will stop posting about your business. Twitter will only block their posts if they are truly considered abusive, slanderous or a violation of their policies in some way, according to the Twitter website.

As Twitter doesn’t natively allow you to see who unfollowed you, the only way to do this is by using a third-party website. This means that you grant certain permissions to the website with respect to your Twitter account.
It’s essential you make sure that all these websites are trustworthy and aren’t using your data for malicious reasons. There is no shortage of websites that could use your account to post spam promotional Tweets, or even to send messages to your followers.

- Soft block force them to unfollow you.
This last one isnt very well known, partly because its not an official feature. But it is pretty handy for getting rid of limpets Ive used it on someone who keeps following all my profiles despite me telling him to leave me alone, and someone whos very good friends with a person;Ive cut out of my life and kept telling them things I was doing.
In either case, a block would have been justifiable, but because Twitter tells people when youve blocked them , blocking people can make them angry and cause you even more problems. People dont know when youve muted them, but that stops you;from seeing;their;stuff, not the other way around. They can still see everything you say. Hence the usefulness of the soft block.
How to soft block someone on Twitter
Its a pretty quick process were using web Twitter but it works the same way on mobile:
1. Go to their profile and block them
2. Unblock them again
Notice how it no longer says follows you beside Alexs name? Thats because he was forced to unfollow me when I blocked him, and undoing the block doesnt bring back the follow. Ta-daa, the force unfollow is complete.
Go forth and soft block with impunity.

Is It Possible To Force Someone You Follow To Unfollow You On Twitter
Is it possible to force someone to unfollow you on Twitter? Use-case: I want to follow my ex-girlfriend, but I don’t want her to follow me. If I block her, I guess I can’t see her tweets. Also, I would rather not use any 3rd party tools like follow her on RSS and block her.
You could block her, which I think will remove her from your followers list. Then you could unblock her. Of course, at that point she can follow you again, but it seems only fair that if you can follow her tweets, she can follow you.
- 1Thanks for the tip, but not sure if block works that way. Also, nothing is fair with this girl.Oct 4 ’10 at 18:53

- 5Block indeed works this way; it breaks both follows and prevents the other person from following you. Unblocking doesn’t restore the follows, it simply allows the other person to follow you again. So block-unblock should do the trick.Oct 4 ’10 at 23:01
- 1But she can see if you start following her again if she has the notifications set to alert her when someboby new starts following her.Aug 15 ’11 at 16:12
- If you want that person not to follow you again, just keep that person blocked.
No you cannot. Twitter is an application for sharing. She has a right to follow anyone she wants if the person allows them to. Blocking is the only way to technically prevent her from following you.
Here is a suggestion of what you can do instead.

Twitter Unfollow: Why You Need To Unfollow Irrelevant Followings
Founded back in 2006, Twitter has undoubtedly caught a lot of attention in the past decade and so. Back then, the early adopters of Twitter used to follow each other on a massive scale and didnt really bother to unfollow them after 3 days .
As a , you cant afford to have a ton of followings certainly not more than your followers especially when your followings are people who are not even relevant to your industry or are not interested in your offerings.
When you allow something like this to happen, you lose credibility because people, in general, assume a person or a businesss credibility and reputation based on the number of followers they have and their follower-to-following ratio.
