What To Do If It Wasn’t Your Fault
Unfortunately, when a bank account is involuntarily closed, it could potentially affect you when you open accounts in the future.
Checking account reporting companies report information about checking accounts. If your account had significant unpaid fees, checking account reporting companies can pass this information onto new financial institutions where you might not be able to open a new account. According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, this may affect you for up to seven years after your bank account is closed.
If your account was closed due to identity theft or for another circumstance that wasn’t your fault, you’ll need to resolve this issue so that it doesn’t affect future accounts.
If you’re unable to resolve the issue, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau also lets you submit a complaint.
Once a complaint is submitted, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will reach out to any company that can address your problem, so you get a response back.
Any issues reported to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau are also stored in a database so that the agency can monitor companies better and enforce laws.
What To Do When Your Bank Has Closed Your Account
As soon as you receive notice that your bank has closed your account, you need to take immediate action in order to be able to continue to pay your bills and manage your money. If you do not, your paycheck may go to the bank, but you will not be able to access the funds. The bank may keep them to help cover your negative balance, since you still owe them that money.

Today I Deleted My Linkedin Account You Probably Should Too
Today I will delete my LinkedIn account. I say I will instead of I have because I do not know how LinkedIns account settings work deleting my account may require substantial effort on my part, it may not even be possible at all. The fact that I have no idea how my account works on LinkedIn should tell you two things: first, that the web services account persistence schemas are incredibly dense and durable, and second, that I have never so much as poked around my LinkedIn account. The first part is generally interesting, and extremely important on a blog like this. Why and how web apps choose to persist user data is in many ways the essence, or at least an exemplar, of big data and analytics. It deserves its own blog post, and it will only be addressed here as it connects to the second item: my particular experience with LinkedIn, and why it convinced me to delete my account.
To begin, some statistics:As of this post, LinkedIn claimed to have over 225 million registered members. Thats a lot of people. For context, Instagram claims around 100 million users, and world-heavyweight Facebook tops the chart at over 1 billion users. For those of you keeping score at home:
- Facebook > 1,000,000,000
- LinkedIn > 225,000,000
- Instagram > 100,000,000

The Curious Case Of Opening Another Account
Can I open a new account instead? This is not a good idea. Even an Amazon suspension expert will refuse to handle your request to open another account, its too risky. Within Amazon’s Seller Code of Conduct, “you may only maintain one Seller Central account for each region you sell.” Others say that you could do so with a legitimate business justification like you own different brands with separate businesses for each or Amazon recruits you in a program where you’re required to open multiple accounts. But it is better to be safe than forever be banned.
How To Avoid Having Your Bank Close Your Account
The best way to avoid having your account closed is to avoid a negative balance. Even if your account offers overdraft services, you will be paying a lot in overdraft fees, and you may become trapped in an overdraft cycle where more and more of your paycheck goes towards the overdraft fees.
Keeping a running balance of your account, and spending only the money that you have in the account will protect you from finding yourself in this situation.
If you have started an overdraft cycle, you will need to break it. You can do this by cutting back on your spending, and possibly speaking with your bank about a schedule to pay back the fees so you can still afford groceries and to pay your rent during the week. You may need to consider selling something or taking on extra work in order to recover from being overdrawn. You need to be proactive until you fix the situation.
If you have not already, you should set up a bare-bones budget and start putting all of your extra money into catching up with the bank and other bills. this does mean that you limit spending on luxuries and canceling things like your cable subscription and gym memberships.
Once you are on a tight budget, you should be able to catch up on your bills and begin to plan for future expenses so that you do not overdraw your account.

How To Reopen A Closed Credit Card Account
Not all credit card issuers will allow cardholders to reopen credit card accounts that they closed, but Chase does. The general rule is that it can be reopened within 30 days of when you closed it. Even if that timeframe has passed, its still worth a try.
Im afraid that big welcome bonus wont be available, though, because youre already a cardholder.
Three Phases Of Account Suspension
At this stage, you can still plead your case and send an Amazon suspension appeal. Amazon has three levels of account suspension as follows:
- Suspension = this is when you receive a notification with a subject: “Your Amazon.com selling privileges have been removed.” Don’t worry because there’s still hope in reinstating your account by sending an appeal letter.
- Denied = if you received this notification, it means Amazon denied your appeal. Can you send another one? Sadly, it is not possible.
- Banned = at this point, Amazon permanently kicks you out of the marketplace with no chances of creating a new account ever again. It is due to repetitive appeals or forceful emails that only worsen the situation.
Thus, your only chance on how to open an Amazon account after a suspension is at the suspension stage. Remember that you only have one shot at appealing your case. The moment you mess this up, you’re not allowed to sell on Amazon ever again

Living Without A Bank Account
If you have your account closed, it will be difficult to find another bank or credit union that is willing to work with you. You will need to learn to operate without a bank account for a few months. You can use money orders to pay many of your bills, or you may want to try to get by with a prepaid credit card.
It can be embarrassing to talk to your job about the issues, but you will need to work out a payment method if your job will only pay you by direct deposit. Some banks may be willing to open a savings account with direct deposit for you until you can establish a checking account again.
Stick With The Old Issuer But Get A New Account
An alternative is to apply for a new account with Chase. Im not sure which card you previously had, but the welcome bonus you mention is currently available for two of the issuers credit cards: Ink Business Cash® Credit Card and Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card. Both are cash back cards and share a number of similarities, such as no annual fee and a 0 percent intro APR on purchases in the first 12 months. To claim the $750 welcome bonus for either card youd have to spend $7,500 within three months of opening your account.
The main difference between the two cards relates to the rewards rate. For the Ink Business Cash card, the rate is tiered. Depending on what you purchase, it will be 1 percent, 2 percent or 5 percent back. On the other hand, the Ink Business Unlimited offers a flat 1.5 percent cash back on all purchases.
If you qualify and like the sound of whichever card you didnt have before, you may want to apply for that one instead. Be aware of Chases 5/24 rule: if you opened five or more personal credit cards from any issuer within the last 24 months, you will likely be denied, regardless of your credit score.

Why Has Your Account Been Restricted
LinkedIn is vague about their selection process for restricting accounts. The alert below explains behavior that appears to violate terms of service, but Ive confirmed that the advisors we work with have not violated the terms of service. Ive also seen multiple accounts with no recent activity that have been restricted. The vast majority of restrictions are not due to violation of terms of service.
